While I agree that putting a holographic sight on a pistol is just as asinine as it sounds I can't seem to find myself wanting to agree with you. I've only watched two videos and in both you've bashed on someone while at the same time clearly stating you don't want to. Even in this one you said it's not what you say but how you say it and it came off as arrogant and uninformative, more or a rant than information. Sorry.
@GrimReapersGhost I never set out to bash anyone… what I mean by that is that I don’t go looking for things to bash people on. When I am training or see things that others are doing that I think are unsafe, etc., I point them out. In this particular instance, this is a case where a company is promoting a product like it is something that you “need” to have.
They say that you should have marksmanship skills out to 100 yards because you might need to defend yourself. Well, IMHO, that is a SHTF scenario & not a “common” thing. This is simply a case where an instructor is simply creating something & selling it to make money. I cannot let people buy into this without saying something. Sure, I point out the flaws in defensive handgun tactics, martial arts, etc.
Is that “bashing” it? I guess it is a matter of mindset. In this particular video segment am I “bashing” this teaching… ABSOLUTELY! Again, I didn’t go looking for something to bash. It actually came to me through a student of this particular school. I guess that maybe you are the type of person who wants to believe what they are told & not have anyone tell you that it is crap. Would you rather me tell the truth or help sell the BS?
Well, I can’t sleep at night promoting or selling something that I don’t believe in. And sorry, that is what I say in all of my videos out of habit because I am not “bashing”, rather informing you of the flaws. But again, in this particular video, YES, I AM bashing this mindset.
I wouldn't say that its totally out of the question to have this sight. I understand the average civilian carry aspect of it. But how about the higher level of training gun carriers out there? As in military or law enforcement. I wouldn't say that it would be out of the question to take a distance shot at a crazed person shooting up a mall or school for example. Open carry would be more ideal for this sight however I'm sure there is a efficiant way to carry concealed with this type of sight.
@uhateme87 Higher level of gun carriers... LE & Military? Maybe. I could see where it might apply. But for the AVERAGE person... NO! I think it is silly to carry around something you will almost never use.
.." without truly taking the time to be objective." Well, I've looked at it from just about every reasonable aspect & it just doesn't make sense... or even common sense really. What people don't realize is that I DO TRAIN on this stuff extensively before I put a video out. I look at things from multiple angles & where it fits in to MOST civilian encounters. This doesn't fit into most civilian encounters.
Some of this might be very good information, but it comes off as too preachy. I found myself skipping through it, and failing to find meat, I moved on. I'm bashing this, or challenging the veracity of the information, but rather simply saying that this comes off as self assured and biased, without truly taking the time to be objective.
@mva1985 The gun looks cool. The price is around $1300 for the setup. I can have a NICE AR-15 for that price! Which would I rather invest the money in and does a better job at 100 yards? Hmmm....
I see your point. But what about if it's a duty gun (not that my agency will allow it) where the extra size and weight isn't really an issue. I have never shot a pistol with a red dot but I imagine it's faster than iron sights much like long guns with red dots are faster than those with only irons ( debatable I'm sure but in my experience). Also, someone who I have a lot of respect for is Kelly McCann. He has been using red dot sights on his pistol probably since the early 90's and I believe he
@ilikepollo79 Yeah, Kelly is one person who uses them. If you are Military or LE I can see where you MIGHT benefit from the red dot. For civilian purposes it is simply nonsense because you probably will never see your sights. You might want to watch the video on using front sight in a confrontation.
@brian47374 Sooo Kelly McCann does it.. Fine. Gabe Suarez does it. Bad. I call bullshit. You say you never to set out to bash any one but thats all you do. period. Your 25yrs "combat martial arts" does equate to one week on the street in the dark fighting for your life. Get a life and quit dragging others down to make you feel better.
@blinky777777 Ok... so I'm not allowed to say it is wrong & crap? Sometimes the truth hurts my friend & it usually hurts those who believe in it. No one other than us has the gonads to speak out against things that will get you injured or killed bc they are afraid of being black balled in the training community. I don't care about that. I care about exposing flaws that others teach & that will get you injured or killed doing what they teach.
I don't feel better by saying it the way that it is. I am simply doing my job. Most people don't want to hear the truth bc they want to feel good about what they know or think they know. And when you bruise their ego they get upset. Case & point. You don't want to hear that the time & money you spent was wasted on something that doesn't work. I wouldn't want to hear that. Just like when I take my car to the mechanic & they say it is going to fix my car & it doesn't & I spend more $.
If you don't like what I say, that is fine. Don't watch our videos & don't visit our website. But, if I don't point out what is wrong, no one will ever know. I guess that I could start using names when I say things, but again, I am not out to bash anyone in particular, rather, the teachings that are wrong IMHO. I have the right to speak out & some people appreciate it, & most won't. Sure, I lose $ bc I speak out, but I can sleep at night knowing what I teach is good stuff.
Like the saying goes, "You can't please all the people all of the time, but you can please some people some of the time". I'm not out to "please" anyone. Just point things out that are dangerous & nonsense! Take it personally, that is on you. I'm sorry that it is that way, but in any other business they can "talk" about their competition. You can bash a football team you don't like, etc. But talk about crap training... and people get upset. It is all about the ego my friend. ;)
Some of the videos we do are a result of classes, emails & calls we get on particular topics. We take some of the most important questions or topics & make videos on them. If I did videos on everything I was asked my opinion on, I wouldn’t get anything done. I don’t like what most people teach & there’s nothing wrong with disagreeing. Our site & material is not for those who want to feel good or be entertained.
I do try to offer advice but when I do & I attack their ego in their mind by suggesting something, they attack me “full force”. So, you see, even when I offer something, people still take it the wrong way. And honestly, that is not my problem & that is on them or you. I don't go to bed at night worrying about who got offended by what I say. Like I said, the truth hurts. And like Jessep said in A Few Good Men, "You can't handle the truth!" This is especially true with most men.
I agree 100% with you. Many compact pistols for conceal carry dont even have sights, or very simple sights, for that reason.
In 95% of the time, if being attacked, you will just have to point and shoot using one hand. Not even using the front sight like some people teach.
Sure the option of aiming at a target 50 yards away is nice, it's why u have REGULAR sights on your gun, for the 5% times you will need to actually aim before you shoot. You dont need more.
All great points Brian. I hate when someone shows me their weapon of choice...and its a 44 magnum...what do they need something that big for in a CQ situation...I guess if the perps are lined up one behind the other you can save ammo....but lets get real....I carry a 9mm, or a .22 the .22 most of the time because of the lightweight and ease of aiming and hitting in a high adrenaline situation. Ill let you know if its effective or not..if I ever have to use it...LOL
I appreciate your no-nonsense approach to such issues. That's a good point about adding bulk to a gun that you may not carry enough anyway because of the inconvenience of doing so. Thanks Brian.
Agreed.
