I live in Amsterdam and am a tourguide and can assure you: the ladies are mostly legal,pay tax and may even charge VAT for their services...

the city closed down a major part of the criminal windows and put businesses of fashionstudents in them,who show their fashion.for some different windowshopping.;) the city decriminalises the area rapidly now to make it more attractive for everyone.
