this scene had me convinced that muppets were really. my older brothers tried to ruin the dream tho. in the theatre saying, "theyre fake! look at the wires." i was hurt lol
When this was done it was hailed as a technological miracle and was accomplished with incredible difficulty. There was a giant crane rig controlling the bikes and it had to be filmed only from certain angles and certain times of the day so the crane's shadow and supports wouldn't show up in the shot.
When most people think of ground breaking special effects movies like Jurassic Park or Avatar spring to mind... but this scene of Kermit ridding a bike ranks right up there with anything Michael Bay has ever done.
Los de efectos especiales se volaron la barda. En el 2:23 me quedé con el ojo cuadrado; la bici de las ratitas! jajaja. Me dieron ganas de andar en bici, que raro. Pretty day! Sunny sky!
this was and still is my favorite scene from "The Great Muppet Caper"! them riding bikes made the Muppets even cooler! i especially LOVE this song, "Couldn't We Ride" by Joe Raposo! ^_^
I have a vauge memory of Jim Henson explaining how this was done on the Jim Henson Hour: Secrets of the Muppets. Still looks amazing all these years later!
Hey there, BloodyCarrie, I remember seeing that too! What a talented guy Jim Henson was; his untimely passing was a sad event, not only for his family, but for all who enjoyed his unique contributions to the world of entertainment.

This was one of the first times in the history of the muppets that people saw Kermit's legs.
It is true, quality entertainment missing today in every aspect of show biz.
They are timeless and sure haven't been fly by night in people knowing who the muppets are and were in their day.

The puppeteers are on cranes and controlling Kermit and Miss Piggie using wires. The Secrets of The Muppets special showed them.
Jim wouldn't explain how he made them do tricks or ride in a circle crossing each other though. He kept that a secret :)
