I think Iqbal said it best with... "You are everything....Muslim too?" Contemplate on this... what was he saying...can one be "Muslim" and anything else at the same time? .. Shikwa and Jawab e Shikwa is a challenge to all who think they understand the meaning of the word.. "Muslim" ...
@eternalbliss786 : I think Dr. Iqbal has used it in dual meaning. 1) We are divided in ethnic groups and dont think of ourselves as one nation that is 'Muslims'
2) Our practices are not same as a true Muslim should have.
As it is told in Jawab-e-shikwa that our fashion is like Christians and our civilization is that of Hindus....
*This is my personal opinion and open to any criticism.
@rasheedareejo Yes.. I agree.. but I believe it goes even deeper in terms of philosophy and into the psychology of identity/ego... meaning one must annihilate one's ego (including all attachments which make one cling to the various labels and groups of this world.. which are fundamentally rooted in division and conflict) ..only then .. when one is essentially 0.. can one be what is a Muslim.. and in comprehension of what "Tawheed" aka Oneness IS. And only then does one truly "submit" aka Muslim
So simply saying..by true definition of Muslim.. you cannot be all those things.. and also be Muslim.. thus in reality.. there are very very very few Muslims or True Believers(probably can count on one hand if we are even that lucky)... most all worship the Idol in the Mirror..
