Much of the biting sound of the shorter is played much nearer to the frog in Argentine tango music on the violin. Even in classical music, any violinist would know that the ideal quality of sound is not achieved by playing so near to the tip.

put it right over the threads near the adjusters and only use about two inches of bow, always at the heel. You need to get the balance right and feel for the right bow speed - if you do that intuitively like riding a bike, it'll happen. You certainly shouldn't bow normally.
