  • it shame that air hogs not longer produce the air power planes. when the power comes from human power to compress air, compress air is cheap.

  • how does the motor make the electricity?

  • For a comressed air engine to continuaously run by itself, you have to have an air compressor driven by the comprssed air engine using an automatic valve system to coninuously switch between running from one air tank & pressurizing the other

  • however, it can't run forever...

  • @mathewbailey08 But after one round of doing that, the pressure of both tanks would be equal, thus no movement either way. And don't think about dropping a pressure spring to load up tank 2 from tank 1, then putting it back when it's done filling - the energy costs would be too great.

  • i think its verry nice... the bottle for the on off ventil of the compressor and a hdd motor for the energie... nice

  • That's not bad, but there is another type of compressed air generator. It is what's called the anus.

  • Believe it or not some landfills have systems set up to collect methane to run generators.

  • I would like to do this on a larger scale. Fill a large air tank with motors/turbines powered by solar or wind. Once enough pressure is built up then run the generator from the compressed air. The air tank becomes like a battery to store the energy. A car engine could turn a lot of turbines to be a more efficient electric generator than ones in the store. Gears would help get the most from the engine. The heat could be used for a house if done right (cars have heaters).

  • I just though this up the other day

  • very good, man!

  • not bad as you can convert old lawn mowers into air compressors and use vertical windmills to send power to a tank. you must lubricate such a motor.. hyou can convert a two cycle motor to be an air motor too.. by the spark plug ..

  • Did you ever measure how many watts you could get out of the air hog engine? I did the same thing with an air hog that I had sitting around but was only generating about quarter watt or so. Of course, I just chose a random motor because it was handy... It looks like you might be getting two or three watts from your setup.

  • No not yet. I am working on a new setup that should give me around 8x the power using VCR heads.

  • Did the engine blow up? :D

  • They use more electricity to create the air flow than its needed to power the lightbow

  • Great stuff! I actually have an air hog, perhaps I should try it. Do you have some closeups or something of the power tranfer from the plastic pistons to the motor?

  • it doessnt matter its a demo

  • IDIOT. the point hes trying to make is its a crap idea, it uses more electtrcity then it puts in!

  • eh... you're the idiot dj whatever, it's a proof of concept - a person capable of extrapolating an idea a little might realise that it would be a very useful contraption if the compressed air came from something like a dj powered pump (which is pretty much all dj's are useful for). but don't worry, i'm sure someone loves you the way you are.

  • lol hmm a bet the air compressor uses a lot electricity to blow through the fan that spins the motor which reacts the coil aganst the magnet that lights the bulb tho ^_^
