I get the metaphor and i think it's beautiful, but how come in the end the "missing piece" still becomes like the Big "O" and the how come the Big 'O' has a MASCULINE voice and the missing piece has the FEMININE voice!!????? HUH ? PAY CLOSE ATTENTION. I wonder if this can be done without gender bias?
@thedoctor33 You get it dude. Sensationalist feminism, or masculinism (I suppose it's called) often proport directly, the things it resists in and of itself.
i dont really get the deep point of this story and view of life... Life is not a place where you can actually roll by yourself, you need others, you need the love, in order to roll and be more or less happy, in order to survive and feel alive in all ways
You can't just find happiness within you, that's too egoistic to be true. That's what I think, at least.
But in the end, the Missing Piece does get to be with the Big O. He also gets to retain his identity. He's free to grow and be his own person. I never realized it when I was young, but this story is all about dependency in relationships. Great work by Silverstein as usual.
@shipcomesin Read the actual story, it satisfies what you mention. This person left the last couple of pages out. The story ends with the missing piece becoming its own "Big O" and it ends up rolling along with the other one at the end of the story -- together but without needing to be a piece of each other.
you know, watching this, im kind of shocked. it reflects life perfectly, i think we have all been through this. i think im still getting to the rolling part though, but whatever...
This actually made me cry. I remember being really into Shel Silverstien when I was a kid, but I never realized how deep some of it was. I feel like the missing piece.
well if you pay close attention, this book is made for adults in a way, because it talks about relationships and how people look for mr right or mrs right, and this shows that you don't need anybody to be whole!
waaaaah! really? thats the last part?? yeeeeeey! i thought it was really meant to end that way and i became sad cuz i thought the small o will just be alone 4ever. yeeey! im so happy :)

A great analogy that I use often, for myself and others... regarding co-dependency... and perceptions.
Love the animation and music!

A line was missing...? The part about having too many pieces, period. Also, I love that you used music from About A Boy. hahhaa...

@mironasee but ponder this who says a deep voice is a masculine and a soft voice feminine? Is that itself not gender bias?

You did a nice job but the last couple pages of the book are very important and you left them out altogether. Food for thought.

My teacher read this to us when we were kids. I only realized it was about dating a few years ago.

Wow, you're horrifyingly sexist. You make me embarrassed to be a man, and a guitarist. Pretty creepy, dude.

This stuff is deep. When you're young, you get it enough to like it. But when all of this comes true, it makes so much sense.
I want to roll on by myself..

Great.
Basically, in order to become independent you must lose most of yourself in a prolonged and agonising process.
Why privilege rolling over standing still, and motion over stillness? Why do we need to roll instead of staying still?

Beautiful version, but the last part is missing... the little O that meets again the big O, rolling together... why? :(
