chico state girls are cunts. whores. they are afraid of boys. they are threatened by boys, all around. do you know what i am going to do? I'm going to get a bat and break all their legs. lets see how happy happy they are in a wheelchair. i would love to walk through campus, with all the other guys, and see all the girls rolling through in wheelchairs, limping, struggling to walk with their crutches and broken arms, black eyes. can you text when all your fingers are broken? cunts.
Just a bunch of the biggest jack asses I have ever seen. They chant f**k the police, but then run away at the first site of them. That is real bad ass of you. What purpose does this serve? Things like this give the school a poor reputation and just makes all of us seem like a bunch of drunken morons. Because of things like this, I feel like transferring.
thats not a riot....thats a bunch of retards standing around a couch on fire....then they start singing bloodhound gang songs....and chanting chico chico chico but no 1 there is a local...
I was born in paradise so ive been around chico all my life. Im a freshmen at chico state now and was in both riots, including this first one from the party til the riot got broken up. once the party got broken up a chick fight started on ivy and everyone ran over to see it. then nobody left the streets. it was such a crazy night. i got shot at by riot police, sprayed by a firetruck, and jumped over a burning couch. craziest night in chico by far
what I keep reading is that this is the way to live.
I don't buy it.
the cops are the reason this kind of awesome expression is no longer allowed.
really...
Anarchists.
there is so much more to live for than getting drunk off of cow piss and jumping over a burning couch that was probably revolting anyway.
parties are cool don't get me wrong but mob mentality is not our natural state of mind... I swear that was the most ridiculous argument I have ever heard.
that's why you have to burn the couch, cuz it's all old and grody. but people are gonna party like this whether they're burning couches, flipping cars or whatever...but everyone should probably know to leave when the cops show up. duh
That was back in 1987, I know a lot has changed. It's sad. I often read about the school. I came from a small town, Hollister CA. I didn't have any money, but I got a great education in communications. I worked for the Enterprise Record and loved Chico. Wish I were there now!
the real riots took place in 1987. It was created by MTV and the media. In its infancy, after chico getting voted the number one party school in Playboy magazine, MTV decided it would be cool to take a week to go cross country from NY to CA, and end up in chico. Kids from around the country came to party. In the blotter, the arrests were over 100. Only 3 were local people. cont...
anyways I just wanted to point out how funny it is how quick people are to judge chico and the people in it just because chico is known as a party town oh and trust me it is but also how your judging us by the college kids stupid actions when in reality most of the college kids arent native to chico! the moral of this is not everyone in chico is all about parties so dont judge people you know absoutly nothing about its rude and uncalled for
Bullshit, natives go to Butte because most cant afford CSUC. These fucking kids come to our town and think they can fuck around just because of the so called name it has, and how much money they have in their family has. I wouldn't have cared one bit if they started tossing kids into the fires, because they fucking deserve it.
Rumours abound that the Chico Police started this riot intentionally. They are trying to drum up support for more police officers. They are concerned that some of them got layed off.
i can believe the police had the fire department spray their firehoses.
and im really suprised the local news never picked up on this.
i though the use of fire hose as crowd control was illegal in the US because to of the negative connotation from the use on blacks in the civil rights battles of the 60's
haha, that was like 4 blocks away from my house. i wasnt in that area at the time, i was over by California Park at the time, and coincidentally without any knowledge of what was going on in the south-west part of town, me and my friends were listening to the song Riot by 3 days grace.
wow! this roit was a waste of time for the police, and firefighters and for everyone else invovled! Why excalty is anyone bothering to go to college? Aren't we suppose to go to college to better ourseleves, not put others in danger. I swear doesn't anybody ever think about anyone other then themselves? Did it ever occur to anyone the police, medical staff, and firefighter have lives and other important things to do instead breaking up a silly good for nothing riot?
merlock101: I was offering the massive police presence on Halloween as an example of this civil violation.
We had the freedom to go downtown unharrassed and unintimidated, now we do not. Many would say that the 'bad apples' messed it up but I've lived here and in this area all my life and I remember how it was. There were problems but not that much more than a usual Saturday, but the crowd sizes scared the police. So they started clearing people from the parks, side walks etc.
these kids think their cool n shit, throwin bottles n startin fires like its som kinda fuckin revolution... haha lil pampered white kids aint never been thru shit get the fuck outta here. u donkeys.
Unfortunately, you are seeing the "douche bag" side of Chico. I am hoping you are just commenting on this so called "riot" rather than all of Chico, because Chico is pretty cool.
no i was originally commenting on the lil mini riot.. but then dumbass people gotta make dumbass comments. im jus sayin, the reason these kids act like that is cause if anything happens to them mommy n daddy will bail them out. they walk around talkin shit like they own the town poppin off to people they dont kno n shit happens.. i love chico tho, but i hate frat boys... period
wow big deal.... everybody gettin all excited over a bunch of dumbass lightweight college kids? im lookin forward to more rookies overdosing. an takin bullets to the face. cuz loud mouth pole smokin frat boys annoy the fuck outta me. GO HOME
ya at least i aint in the middle of a street actin like i got dropped off a bridge when i was a baby... chico used to be tight until lame ass people like u wanna proove some bullshit.. an thats y u get ur assed kicked bitch.
ok, tell me in what way this is going to allow you to have a less restricted Halloween coming up? its only going to cause the fucking "police govt. agency" to have more forces out during the weekend, and be less tolerable to parties or people being drunk in public.
LOL.. kids like u that grew up like a straight bitch now ur in college drinkin think ur som kinda rebel. u aint ever done shit besides follow some lil crowd like a sheep. an fuck the police an fuck u. dont talk shit on the computer cause if ur in chico ill whoop ur ass. an i BET ull call the police. bitch

Halloween is for the children, not for drunken people to be causing trouble and destroying things in the street. Or white pride racists to be hating on police who have to be away from their families just to try and control intoxicated people downtown.
Dress up, be spirited but don't destroy things and cause problems for everyone else.
that is true, but not in the sense that families send their kids out to wander door to door to get candy. college students are still children in the sense that they can still have fun before being tied down to a job and a family, but when was the last time you saw a "child" burning things in the street, throwing things at the police while chanting fuck the police.

Because synth pop (I know what it is) is fun to dance to. And people still listen to it because of its vintage tone and quality, and for nostalgic purposes. It's dead though, because nobody notable makes it any more.
But I'm pretty sure Lasalles plays quite a bit of rock and metal too, does it not?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hahahahaha you must be a clueless retard then because all the new electro-clash stuff sounds like 80s synthpop music with an edge to it. I think you're just pissed that rock n roll is a far smaller scene in this town at the bars. that's an irrefutable fact btw.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What are you talking about? I'm not angry about anything. It's pure logic when I say that synth pop is dead, because it died 20 years ago. I'm not mad.
And rock is still the largest music scene worldwide, and most likely will remain so. So I have no problem with Chico's isolated taste in music.
And I don't even go to bars, dude. I'm 19. Why would I care what kind of music they play?
synthpopclassics: "oroville wiggers and shit-hop losers" and somewhere back there I think you called someone an 'afro bozo' and some reference to 'chimpanzees'
I don't care if you and I agree on some points, you sir, are a racist waste of flesh.

illuminaticus is a left leaning effeminate piece of shit/scum loser who still lives in his mother's basement. basically the same thing as ghetto-tard.
We've lost the freedom to be left alone while out getting inebriated. The cops used to mostly leave people alone unless there was a problem, now just being buzzed or in a large group is a problem.
This sort of police action is reprehensible, I hardly ever drink nor attend massive parties, however you shouldn't have to be a target of those actions to understand that they are wrong.
The right to the pursuit of happiness, or in this case the right to have a good time, is as important as the right to assemble and the right to free speech.
I remember Halloween. I know how Chico used to be and I miss it.
Zero tolerance just makes everyone intolerant, and further events such as this one.
Its easy to dismiss this as drunken fools being rightfully rousted by the police, especially if your not one who goes to such parties.
However this isn't about just that, this is about a disproportionate response to large gatherings. This is about an incremental creep toward greater and greater restrictons on freedom and personal behavior and the inevitable response to that repression.
The police are curtailing all parties, not just 'out of control' gatherings.
We're losing the right to fully express our primal urges. I hate the fact that the "polite" side of society tries to compensate for this by suggesting a "hobby" or a "sport." Pretty pathetic substitutes for those of us who are truly conscious. I personally started a fight club junior year. Perfect outlet. But even that is against the law. So now I'm pinned to argue with you and others on here, and with people outside who would cowardly sue if I ever physically expressed what I thought of them.
Horrible way of living. You're not living because you're in college. You just listened to your parents. It's just another means of survival. Having a life is becoming conscious and connected with your most primal self and others; impossible without communal thinking (i.e. a "mob"). The government, in fact all of civilization and its culture is bringing us to a dumber state. Just because we thrive as a species doesn't mean we're truly enlightened.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If you're talking about enlightenment while at the same time trying to tell me that going to college is the opposite, I don't think we're going to see eye to eye.
I go to college because I like learning, my career of choice requires it, and it's going to make me a lot more money than people who don't.
And just for the record, most of the people you see in this video are in college too. You say I'm not living because I don't riot, yet you're really also saying they aren't living either.
I can see the type of person I'm talking to now. Man, it's a mentality like yours that makes it impossible to learn. Your entire comment is based on some twisted assumption of me referring to college as the opposite of enlightenment. When the hell did I say, or even imply that? I pointed out how stupid it was for you to "prove" you're living because you go to college. Going to college is just learning ideas. I go to college. I'd like more money. But I'd also like to live like a human's meant to.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry, I misread what you said originally. The way you worded it made it look like you were saying that because of the fact that I'm in college, I'm not living.
And I didn't say that the fact that I'm in college means I'm living life to its fullest.
Now let's reassess this, because that changes the dynamics of this completely.

City council meeting? What would an 80s pop-obsessed anarchist know about meetings?
And if you would pull your head out of your ass and notice the context of this entire conversation, you'll realize that I go to Chico State. That would be a four-year university, not a junior college. Go home and watch Zeitgeist 2, I hear it's coming out soon.

Watch this: I'm posting a comment. Now even though I'm not posting any objectionable content, I will have at least 3 thumbs down within 24 hours simply because I'm the one who posted the comment. :)
I'm a long time resident and have seen a creeping crawl towards authoritarianism among the police regarding the issue of parties. Many of these parties just small gatherings, and if you have a live band your gonna be shut down.
Ask any long time Chico band, backyard concerts used to be a mainstay. Now you risk losing your equipment, and the host getting a fine.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Like I've said before, why is it that out of all the live shows I've seen, only one was shut down? And you never told me why the police actually allowed the band to finish playing. It's a true story. I'll get thumbs down on my comment, but it is true.
Are you trying to use some kind of reverse psychology with the thumbs down thing? You have no life. Just the fact that you're trying so hard to defend it right here, and the way you're defending it, simply tells me you really don't have a life and people can't stand you. I can tell you're not happy and you're not going to be willing to admit it. You've never done this kind of shit, so you have no right to judge. Sooo, there you go.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well look, it worked. The way I'm defending it with reason, and people don't like that. People like to think that they're being oppressed, so when someone comes along and tells them the truth that they're simply being immature, they don't like that.
I do have a life, that's why I'm in college. Getting fucked up on the weekends and starting a riot doesn't define "having a life." And yes, I've done this before. I was at the riot. I was punched in the face during it. I know what I'm talking about.
Yeeeaaah, no. I don't think anyone here believes you. You don't even understand what people here are defending, and your "reasons" are closed-minded at best. Peace and quiet isn't mankind's nature, if you haven't noticed. You may say it's your nature but that's because you've never been a part of a mob mentality, our most natural state of being. You've been "scared straight," so to speak. Your anger's resolved here, in pitiful confrontations, then stored up again.
The mob mentality is pure stupidity. And yes, I've had the mob mentality. I had it for about 10 minutes that night, until a fist to the temple made me realize that it was stupid and best if I got out of it. Mob mentality is natural to us because it's instinctive and animalistic, but humans are supposed to be above animals.
Whether or not you think peace and quiet is in our nature, it doesn't change the fact that a cop has to respond when there's a call about it.
Only because they're paid to, duh. I'm not undermining a cop's ability, just the law we must abide by. What makes you so sure we're above animals? What makes social evolution (man-made) the "answer" to our natural evolution (God[or whoever]-made)? If a punch to the head makes you complain about our (yours, too) natural behavior, then that just shows me how devolved and incapable you are. You are so fucking pampered. No, it's not stupid. It helps us survive and commune.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Our natural evolution has put us on a greater level than animals. We have the power to act on reason instead of instinct. A riot as a quick response to temporary unhappiness (broken up party) is not reason, it's instinct. Humans aren't bound to that, they have a choice whether or not they want to follow it.
The fact that I didn't enjoy being punched in the face doesn't mean I'm pampered. And the mob mentality doesn't help us survive. In fact, it leads to bad things more often than good things.
No, our natural evolution didn't put us on a greater level than animals. I don't understand how you can think we're the first species to use reason. We can thrive easier, but the only reason we're so dominant and have an apparent sense of superiority is through social evolution, which in reality caused nothing but problems for ourselves and the rest of the world. Where has reason gotten us? In a shithole society that takes away the shame system through anonymity and privacy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Also, I have an example of how humans are above animals in their ability to act on reason. When I was punched, I turned around, ready to hit back. Instinct tole me to hit the guy back. But then I realized that he was a lot bigger than me, and surrounded by friends. I made the reasonable decision to just leave, because hitting him as I wanted would not have been a good idea.
Oh, and admdelta is my alt account (just so there's no confusion... I forgot to log out of it when I left that comment)
Then we try to make up for this loss of shame through strictly enforced rules that decreases our conscious awareness of the world and our own nature, which is still there, unhealthily dormant, causing psychological problems. The rest of the technological development causing our physiological problems (i.e. obesity, diseases from living so packed together with others, and animals in tiny stables to increase productivity). Native Americans had it right. Nomads. "Eh" to european industry.
I can see that you are completely incapable of applying your logic to anything but the society youre raised in. Yes, the mob mentality DID help us survive. Youve already admitted this mentality was instinct. You think its caused more bad than good? Why, oh why did millions of years of evolution give us this horrible instinct?! And how, with this devastating handicap of mind, could we have possibly survived in the natural world?! Figure it out.
From your example, I get this: 1. You somehow think fear comes from reason, not instinct... riiight. Okay, buddy. 2. Gathering from both your stories of that night, you were first having fun and yelling, and shit, then some guy smacks you in the head. You instinctually were going to hit back, and keep the fun going, then you got scared when you saw his size and friends. THAT's when you decided 'this is stupid.' You don't see a problem with your reasoning, here? Haha. 3. You weren't really a mob.
has anyone who commented lived in chico for a coupple years? i grew up here and iv seen at least 100 burning couches in my day and some mobs holloween andyone? this is just how chico is godbless nothung unusual
This was ONE night. Obviously this riot wasn't smart, but it happened because the cops have been breaking up parties WELL before midnight for a while now. They are on a power trip. People who work, go to school all day, and then want to relax and party with friends have every right to be irritated that cops are cracking down the way they are.
Alright seriously? Some people just need to pull out whatever is up their ass...I mean, if you don't expect that in a city filled with tons of students that live without their parents and within a 2 mile radius of each other aren't going to party, then you're the moron. This has been going around for how long?...Yea, I don't believe it's gonna stop anytime soon. So if you're not used to it by now this is probably the time to start trying.
I see a bunch of followers in all these videos... A bunch of kids with nothing better to do that blend in with the crowd because it's fun... cool... party time... whatever. It's time to grow up kids. Where have all the leaders gone?... The ones who stand up for what's right regardless of what the "crowd" is doing. I live in Chico and take a lot of pride in the town. Man, what a disappointment.
Gosh, perhaps because they too often abuse their power and throw away the consitutional and bill of rights of decent citizens by, tasering, bullying, intimidating, threatening, lieing, harrassing, jailing, and in some cases assaulting innocent people.
those stories have happened all over the u.s. in 2008 alone. you're free to live with rose colored glasses on but I won't.
and to your last comment, you just proved my argument, that the police govt. agency haven't nary a fucking clue in regards to following the bill of rights and constitution. Which is precisely why they need competition. We have grocery stores to chose from, why not different law/policing agencies?
Instead of cracking down we could have just embraced the event, blocked the streets, had some good music in the park, vendors, exhibitions—and if its an event there could be a ticket price or at least some could be escorted out. It should be managed not repressed.
Instead were on this path of trying to stamp it out and its only going to cause more violent eruptions.
The seamless integration of the military and law enforcement into a single "Internal Security Force" is the defining characteristic of a fully realized police state. Once this fusion is accomplished, the question becomes not "whether" a police state exists, but rather how acute its institutional violence against the subject population will become.
It's really sad to see how little we can trust our "law enforcement"
False arrest is a legitimate action someone can take on pro se. They need to be put on notice, win or lose, they are going for a litigation ride. Towns and police agencies don't like hiring cops with false arrest litigation history.
You know, I'm not sure about everything you just said, but it's definitely a point of view, and could be looked in to, but one thing is for sure: not too many people know the law, and they get screwed over so easily by the cops because of it. I recommend requiring a class in law during middle school or high school. Not sure which, but I never took one, so I don't think it's ever really been brought up, because, to me, it sounds like a really 'why didn't we think of this sooner' kind of idea, eh?
Then let them come with a warrant. Let them stand before a judge, present evidence supporting a probable cause to believe a crime is imminent or in progress, and let the judge sign a warrant that names exactly what the police expect to find, and where. If they can't manage that, they've no business entering your or my or anyone's home.
That's because they are so bought into the "state" and they really believe it only wants to help people.
I would have gotten his name and badge number. I then would have kept recording the officer and if he would have harrassed him I would have called the watch commander to come down and check him. You are right. When you know your rights and the law, they dont like it because you can use their techniques against them. All legal mind you
Why is it that corporate Amerika doesn't want 'high' school grads, and when they do they don't want to pay them more than minimum wage... but the 'cops' will gobble them up and start them at better than $20/hr? Same with the military?! Is it because they will do exactly as they are told WITHOUT QUESTION? Many times have I heard of college educated (though not much better as most colleges are 'state' colleges and don't teach critical thinking) people being turned down... coincidence?! Must be!!
That's hilarious, everyone here who is a 'cop' raise your hand, wait, no need. I can pick out the apologists for the state from a mile away. Defend your puny jobs. You people talk about 'constitutional rights' like you have some! Do 'rights' stem from the con-stitution? If you think so, I've got a bridge to sell you! Do cops take an oath to uphold the con-stitution? If so, how many of these so-called defenders of the con-stitution have EVER READ IT?! How can you defend what U don't understand?
Kick out the Oroville dirtbags(and surrounding po-dunk town inbreds), shit-hop retards, wannabe GAYng members, wiggers/chavs, etc. Problem solved. The town needs an enema.
Halloween was big and had relatively few problems, however the large crowd size made the cops nervous. So they would sweep them out of downtown and then they would re-congregate at fifth and Ivy.
What would have happened if the cops didn't disrupt the party? Probably nothing. But forcing large crowds out in the streets sure had an impact didn't it?
Halloween could come back, and if the police could learn a little tolerance it wouldn't be a bad thing. If they don't there will be lots of violence and destruction. I will say it again: the cops provoke the riots.
I've also noticed that since the labor day float/Halloween/New Years/St. Patrick's day crackdowns, the partying on non-holiday has gotten a lot more out of control. People need this sort of release
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The police have a job, and it's to enforce the law. When neighbors call to complain about a rowdy and loud party, it is the law for the police to break it up. If the kids have a problem, they can find a reasonable way to bring up the issue. They can even press to get the law changed.
Blocking off a street and burning things and throwing things at the police is not an acceptable response. You aren't going to convince anyone that a bunch of drunk kids were right and law enforcement were wrong.
The police are fucking losers and their only job is to enforce the nanny state govt. and protect big business while fleecing the people by writing tickets.
Yet in most cases they are more than eager to use all those fun toys they have, to escalate a situation.
There are areas of town that are party areas, if you don't like that then there are plenty of other places to rent. If you own in those areas, the writing has been on the wall for nearly three decades, more than ample time to buy elsewhere.
I'm not in support of burning couches, but this is the natural reaction to a creeping fascism.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Don't kid yourself and think that a few officers coming in and saying "Hey guys, keep it down" was going to stop anything. All those fun toys of theirs are necessary. They need riot gear in order to protect themselves from angry crowds - especially angry crowds of college students who are drunk and already hate the police.
It doesn't matter if it's a party area. Illegal activities are still illegal, and nobody renting in the area could have foreseen a mini riot outside their house.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes, disturbing the peace is illegal. This wasn't a case of the police trying to be oppressive, they were responding to a complaint. That's what they have to do.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Where are you coming up with this? If a policeman lawfully arrests me, then I messed up and it's my fault. What does that have to do with me knowing the law?
This is truly a patheic sight. Those of us that have lived in Chico have seen this behavior before and are certain to see it again. The sad thing is that the majority of the instigators are kids that come from out of town and or out of state to get an education on Mom and Dad's cash coupled with the high school kids that infiltrate the college parties. It does not help that prior to the riots in the mid 80's CSUC was listed in the top 10 party schools in the Playboy college issues. ={
what I dont get is why those bay area guys who think theyre hard dont start a war with those young transients in downtown who carry knives and rob people or panhandle and use drugs or those black gang banger wannabes behind safeway on columbus. All three of these groups should just take each other out and the cops would have a lot less to worry about.
and btw why do so many hot high school girls hang out with those hobo transients in down town? Why not party with college folk?
wow a lot of wasted tax dollars in that picture...and im not talking about the police. im talking about all the idiots that are on grants, scholorships or just their parents bank accounts...ill see all u idiots when im getting some fast food next. a shame that that beautiful town has to deal with dip shits like that
This is practically stupid, and insane. It is pretty sad that a handful of immature, drunk (most likely underage) students are giving Chico state a bad name. You act like animals, therefore you get treated like one. Fair & square.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well if being a reasonable, intelligent human being who cares about more in life than alcohol and drugs and prefers to avoid fucking up my future makes me a pussy, then I guess you got me!
You go off and be a real man and work your minimum wage job after you drop out of college.
How very self righteous, "I don't drink I don't use drugs".
Well you share this world with people who may not live up to your 'standards'. There are people who want to party, and the Chico PD has been pushing back at that for years-yet there's been no real effect. Halloween is closed down so the weekend before is madness. The labor day float is overrun with cops, so they go the day before.
There is no way to stop this with a jackboot. It should be managed and allowed to breathe.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I never said I don't drink or do drugs. I won't deny that I drink. I'm simply saying that you can't call me a pussy simply because I don't make it a lifestyle. I prioritize school over partying, because I have more important things to do in life than get drunk and high. Partying is fun, but it's not something that I do every single night, and I certainly wouldn't light fires all down Warner simply because my party was broken up.
I actually share that with you, I hardly ever drink and I'm a serious student, but this isn't about you or I, its about the Chico Police attempting to stop the unstoppable. Chico is a party town, and continued repression will only lead to more instances such as this.
That energy has to go somewhere, and as the parties have been suppressed there has been more violence.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But it isn't even repression! It's law enforcement. The police enforce the law, whether the people like it or not. Naturally, everyone whose fun is ruined by the police are going to think all their rights are being trampled on by a bunch of fun-hating officers, but it isn't the case.
Also, Chico isn't nearly as much of a party town as it used to be, and the police used to be a lot harsher. So how did it get to its current state if the police were even worse then?

I was born in paradise so ive been around chico all my life. Im a freshmen at chico state now and was in both riots, including this first one from the party til the riot got broken up. once the party got broken up a chick fight started on ivy and everyone ran over to see it. then nobody left the streets. it was such a crazy night. i got shot at by riot police, sprayed by a firetruck, and jumped over a burning couch. craziest night in chico by far

Anarchists.
there is so much more to live for than getting drunk off of cow piss and jumping over a burning couch that was probably revolting anyway.
parties are cool don't get me wrong but mob mentality is not our natural state of mind...

Only 3 were local people. cont...

merlock101: I was offering the massive police presence on Halloween as an example of this civil violation.

GradhDhu 3 years ago 20

But I do go to such parties. My opinion is the same. And I rarely see the cops interfere.
So far, not one example has been given to show these "greater restrictions on freedom." Exactly what freedoms are you losing?
merlock101 3 years ago
We're losing the right to fully express our primal urges. I hate the fact that the "polite" side of society tries to compensate for this by suggesting a "hobby" or a "sport." Pretty pathetic substitutes for those of us who are truly conscious. I personally started a fight club junior year. Perfect outlet. But even that is against the law. So now I'm pinned to argue with you and others on here, and with people outside who would cowardly sue if I ever physically expressed what I thought of them.
SpaceCowboy941 3 years ago 2
Horrible way of living. You're not living because you're in college. You just listened to your parents. It's just another means of survival. Having a life is becoming conscious and connected with your most primal self and others; impossible without communal thinking (i.e. a "mob"). The government, in fact all of civilization and its culture is bringing us to a dumber state. Just because we thrive as a species doesn't mean we're truly enlightened.
SpaceCowboy941 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
If you're talking about enlightenment while at the same time trying to tell me that going to college is the opposite, I don't think we're going to see eye to eye.
I go to college because I like learning, my career of choice requires it, and it's going to make me a lot more money than people who don't.
And just for the record, most of the people you see in this video are in college too. You say I'm not living because I don't riot, yet you're really also saying they aren't living either.
merlock101 3 years ago

synthpopclassics 3 years ago
I can see the type of person I'm talking to now. Man, it's a mentality like yours that makes it impossible to learn. Your entire comment is based on some twisted assumption of me referring to college as the opposite of enlightenment. When the hell did I say, or even imply that? I pointed out how stupid it was for you to "prove" you're living because you go to college. Going to college is just learning ideas. I go to college. I'd like more money. But I'd also like to live like a human's meant to.

Sorry, I misread what you said originally. The way you worded it made it look like you were saying that because of the fact that I'm in college, I'm not living.

This should be a wake up call to all of Chico.
Do we not have the right to free assembly?

Like I've said before, why is it that out of all the live shows I've seen, only one was shut down? And you never told me why the police actually allowed the band to finish playing. It's a true story. I'll get thumbs down on my comment, but it is true.
merlock101 3 years ago
Are you trying to use some kind of reverse psychology with the thumbs down thing? You have no life. Just the fact that you're trying so hard to defend it right here, and the way you're defending it, simply tells me you really don't have a life and people can't stand you. I can tell you're not happy and you're not going to be willing to admit it. You've never done this kind of shit, so you have no right to judge. Sooo, there you go.

I know what I'm talking about.
merlock101 3 years ago
Yeeeaaah, no. I don't think anyone here believes you. You don't even understand what people here are defending, and your "reasons" are closed-minded at best. Peace and quiet isn't mankind's nature, if you haven't noticed. You may say it's your nature but that's because you've never been a part of a mob mentality, our most natural state of being. You've been "scared straight," so to speak. Your anger's resolved here, in pitiful confrontations, then stored up again.
SpaceCowboy941 3 years ago
The mob mentality is pure stupidity. And yes, I've had the mob mentality. I had it for about 10 minutes that night, until a fist to the temple made me realize that it was stupid and best if I got out of it. Mob mentality is natural to us because it's instinctive and animalistic, but humans are supposed to be above animals.
Whether or not you think peace and quiet is in our nature, it doesn't change the fact that a cop has to respond when there's a call about it.
admdelta 3 years ago
Only because they're paid to, duh. I'm not undermining a cop's ability, just the law we must abide by. What makes you so sure we're above animals? What makes social evolution (man-made) the "answer" to our natural evolution (God[or whoever]-made)? If a punch to the head makes you complain about our (yours, too) natural behavior, then that just shows me how devolved and incapable you are. You are so fucking pampered. No, it's not stupid. It helps us survive and commune.
SpaceCowboy941 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Our natural evolution has put us on a greater level than animals.
In fact, it leads to bad things more often than good things.
merlock101 3 years ago
No, our natural evolution didn't put us on a greater level than animals. I don't understand how you can think we're the first species to use reason. We can thrive easier, but the only reason we're so dominant and have an apparent sense of superiority is through social evolution, which in reality caused nothing but problems for ourselves and the rest of the world. Where has reason gotten us? In a shithole society that takes away the shame system through anonymity and privacy.
SpaceCowboy941 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Also, I have an example of how humans are above animals in their ability to act on reason.
I forgot to log out of it when I left that comment)
merlock101 3 years ago
Then we try to make up for this loss of shame through strictly enforced rules that decreases our conscious awareness of the world and our own nature, which is still there, unhealthily dormant, causing psychological problems. The rest of the technological development causing our physiological problems (i.e. obesity, diseases from living so packed together with others, and animals in tiny stables to increase productivity). Native Americans had it right. Nomads. "Eh" to european industry.
SpaceCowboy941 3 years ago 2
I can see that you are completely incapable of applying your logic to anything but the society youre raised in. Yes, the mob mentality DID help us survive. Youve already admitted this mentality was instinct. You think its caused more bad than good? Why, oh why did millions of years of evolution give us this horrible instinct?! And how, with this devastating handicap of mind, could we have possibly survived in the natural world?! Figure it out.
SpaceCowboy941 3 years ago 2
From your example, I get this: 1. You somehow think fear comes from reason, not instinct... riiight. Okay, buddy. 2. Gathering from both your stories of that night, you were first having fun and yelling, and shit, then some guy smacks you in the head. You instinctually were going to hit back, and keep the fun going, then you got scared when you saw his size and friends. THAT's when you decided 'this is stupid.' You don't see a problem with your reasoning, here? Haha. 3. You weren't really a mob.

If they can't manage that, they've no business entering your or my or anyone's home.
synthpopclassics 3 years ago

Must be!!

The military pays their personnel $20 an hour?? Haha! You serious? Unless you're an officer, it's one of the shittiest pays out there.
Corporate America doesn't want high school grads because high school grads don't have enough education to properly compete in the business world.
Haha, and you're one of those people that spells America with a K. You must be an anarchist!

They can't blame this one on Halloween. The police have taken a zero tolerance stance, and this is the result.
I saw what happened to Chico's Halloween, and it wasn't 'stupid people ruining it for everyone' it was the police.
illuminaticus 3 years ago 10
Halloween was big and had relatively few problems, however the large crowd size made the cops nervous. So they would sweep them out of downtown and then they would re-congregate at fifth and Ivy.
What would have happened if the cops didn't disrupt the party? Probably nothing. But forcing large crowds out in the streets sure had an impact didn't it?
illuminaticus 3 years ago 9
Halloween could come back, and if the police could learn a little tolerance it wouldn't be a bad thing. If they don't there will be lots of violence and destruction. I will say it again: the cops provoke the riots.
I've also noticed that since the labor day float/Halloween/New Years/St. Patrick's day crackdowns, the partying on non-holiday has gotten a lot more out of control. People need this sort of release

The police are here to protect big business? LOL, I didn't realize Frankie's Pizza and the Five and Eye restaurant were "big business."
merlock101 3 years ago
Yes, and their job is to keep the peace.
Party on!

Illegal activities are still illegal, and nobody renting in the area could have foreseen a mini riot outside their house.
merlock101 3 years ago
What I'm saying is they should have just let a party be a party, they didn't need to come in in shut things down at all.
And what was it that was illegal? Disturbing the peace? Seems the police disturbed the peace more than the partyers.
illuminaticus 3 years ago 11
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Yes, disturbing the peace is illegal. This wasn't a case of the police trying to be oppressive, they were responding to a complaint. That's what they have to do.
merlock101 3 years ago
I so hate to use ad hominum, however in the case of hypocracy I cannot resist.
You say that you drink 'some' however your profile says your 19. Isn't that illegal?

Yes, it is illegal. And if it's ever within Constitutional bounds for a policeman to arrest me for it, I won't have any complaints.

Where are you coming up with this? If a policeman lawfully arrests me, then I messed up and it's my fault. What does that have to do with me knowing the law?
merlock101 3 years ago
the police disturb and harrass the public all the time. they should be fined as well.
i'd rather we have competition for the police rather than just them as the "enforcers".

merlock101 3 years ago
This is truly a patheic sight. Those of us that have lived in Chico have seen this behavior before and are certain to see it again. The sad thing is that the majority of the instigators are kids that come from out of town and or out of state to get an education on Mom and Dad's cash coupled with the high school kids that infiltrate the college parties. It does not help that prior to the riots in the mid 80's CSUC was listed in the top 10 party schools in the Playboy college issues. ={

what I dont get is why those bay area guys who think theyre hard dont start a war with those young transients in downtown who carry knives and rob people or panhandle and use drugs or those black gang banger wannabes behind safeway on columbus. All three of these groups should just take each other out and the cops would have a lot less to worry about.
and btw why do so many hot high school girls hang out with those hobo transients in down town? Why not party with college folk?

This is practically stupid, and insane. It is pretty sad that a handful of immature, drunk (most likely underage) students are giving Chico state a bad name. You act like animals, therefore you get treated like one. Fair & square.

It should be managed and allowed to breathe.
illuminaticus 3 years ago 10

I never said I don't drink or do drugs. I won't deny that I drink. I'm simply saying that you can't call me a pussy simply because I don't make it a lifestyle. I prioritize school over partying, because I have more important things to do in life than get drunk and high. Partying is fun, but it's not something that I do every single night, and I certainly wouldn't light fires all down Warner simply because my party was broken up.
merlock101 3 years ago
Good for you!
I actually share that with you, I hardly ever drink and I'm a serious student, but this isn't about you or I, its about the Chico Police attempting to stop the unstoppable. Chico is a party town, and continued repression will only lead to more instances such as this.
That energy has to go somewhere, and as the parties have been suppressed there has been more violence.
illuminaticus 3 years ago 11
This comment has received too many negative votes show
But it isn't even repression!
