remember them days, they advertised a car and you knew it was a car advert, try showing a car commercial these days with a car driving on 2 wheels or ripping the piss out of manufactures cars.
Back when I was a kid, I saw this EXACT commercial! Which was translated to Chinese in Taiwan. It was nothing short of a huge impression for a kid like me. :)
Difference between a Montego and a Sierra is you could see the rust on the Monty, (cosmetic) whereas the Sierra you didn't until a rusted turret let go and a strut shot out through the bonnet (dangerous) ha ha ha
i assume thats a comment meant to bring back memories of nazi Germany? I don't see the same comments about Japanese cars and the British punters queuing up to buy them! lets remember their sadistic ways in WW2 shall we? they starved and tortured British soldiers to death on the Burma railway, but hey their cars do have excellent road handling and air con as standard so lets forget all about their faux pas shall we.
It does pain me to say it, because we have made some tasty motors down the years, but I wouldn't buy anything other than VW. I say this though, I think it was more managment that fucked up the british motor industry, same the ppl who turned out all that crap in the 70's are happily building cars in the UK for yank, or french and japanese compaines now. It's amazing how a country that could design a car like the mini, or morris minor, or hilman imp, could make something so shit as the alegro
totally agree, amazing how much BMW has done to inprove the mini since they bought the rights to it. Under BL they never really inproved and updated it. plus it suffered terribly with rust. British industry seems to have the attitude "if you want something done right, get someone in another country to do it" a sad shame
What nonsense. Rover workers designed the new MINI in the late 1990s. I saw them at Gaydon when I visited their testing centre. Then when BMW carved up the company in 2000, they retained the design and the old Morris plant in Oxford where they are still built by the same workforce that built the Maestro, Montego and latterly the Rover 75.
cont... our father in law gave us similar aged 205, which he had pampered, getting it, ha ha listen to this serviced regularly, and it was a stinking heap of galic shit, everything went wrong on it. My ma bought a renault 5 brand new, really looked after it she only put 9000 miles on it in 2 years, when the engine block cracked, and they didn't want to know, they gave her a new engine in the end the she had to have fitted @ her own expense.
I have had vw's for years, never new from a dealership, always horrible old ratty ones, I had a polo that cost me 600 quid, and it was just so reliable, in the end I tried to kill it, I didn't do an oil change for years, the oil looked like marmite in the end, I used to screw the bollocks out of it 29 BHP on the motorway between Runcorn and Cov, doing 95 MPH in that thing was V scarry, and the bastard thing just point blank refused to die cont....
I wouldn't have any of them the Montego is just a joke, as for the cavalier and the sierra it depends on which model your talking about, but the fords from that era seemed to be OK when they where new but after a couple of years the engines start to smoke and the electrics mess up, the amount of fords I have been behind and they have indicated and all the lights start to flash, and they all seem to be pouring blue smoke out after a year or two. Get yourself a VW or Audi can't go wrong there.
actually 2litresierra, back in the day my mate had a montego 2.0 and he raced a sierra 2.0 and the montego left it for dust. they were a bit crappy but the rover engines were some of the quickiest in all classes.
dont compare the crappy montego to the sierra the sierra handled like a dream unlike the montego or the cavalier and ide rather have and hyper essex boy car than a boring under powered shopping trolley.and the sierra was the best rally/ touring car of all time were the montego wasnt as good yes there was the turbo but even that was front wheel drive unlike the mighty sierra cosworth

When the Metropolitan Police had Montegos as patrol cars they were so unreliable they were nicknamed Monte-no-gos.
