That guy below must not have been in a barn on a racetrack where the horses are kept. I don't even treat my dogs as well as these horses are treated. The dogs don't get rubbed down with liniment every day.
Anyway, sorry your horses were scratched out, but it was total slop on Derby day.
the "useful" lifespan of a race horse comes down to about 10 to 12 years, assuming all goes well and the horse continues to place. Beyond that, its life will depend entirely on the kindness and money of its owner. If both are in short supply, it will meet the fate so many often do: the knackery or slaughterhouse. Sadly, owners sometimes don't form any sort of commitment to owning a horse and will get rid of it quickly so that money is not wasted on it if it is not winning races.
in 1820 a man named fredrick osloft one day he was working in his lab until a ghost came by and killed him the next morning fredrick was nowhere to be seen 100 years later two boys went in the lab as a dare the boys where never seen again where aparently murdered now that u have read this comment tonight when u go to sleep the two boys and fredrick will come and murder you but you can stop this by posting this comment on 5 other videos by midnight
Beautiful aren't they? These horses work hard to entertain the public and make their owners rich, you would think they should get a nice retirement right? Well, it happens that when they stop winning most go to gruesome slaughter and become a piece of meat. This is horrid. Only a human could repay a trusted, loyal companion and pet in this way. So hellish and sad the things people will do for money!!!
Don't forget that bulimia is rampant among jockeys because they have to be so small. They call it "turning" when they eat a lot just to satiate their hunger and then immediately throw up to maintain their weight. They even have oversized toilets for it at race tracks. Pretty sick.
There is a place called Old Friends in Kentucky that takes care of retired racehorses, with donations from the public - look them up, they're on MySpace. Amazing place...they truly care.
This is gonna be a good race. I have some names on who is running (I Want Revenge, Fiesan Fire, Pioneer of the Nile, Desert Party, and Dunkirk. I can wait to see this race. Not sure of who I will pick, by watch the ones who run from behind. Those horse's are the one' to really watch. Some of their stats are amazing.
It is sad to hear two of the horse's are out. But their health is more important. And I hope to hear a tribute to Eight Bells. She was beautiful. Great run girl.
I like more than one horse, but if I had to pick one it is Quality Road. When you get an Elusive Quality who can go over a mile they are in a word scary! Anyone remember a certain horse named Smarty???
They retired OF because he suffered a slab fracture. Sadly,Unbridled Song's though brilliant have a tendency to be unsound. Thats a shame for they have unreal talent.
I can't believe that they retired Old Fashined. Stardom Bound isn't running in the Oaks, and The Pamplemousse is out for the rest of 2009. None of last year's promising 2-year-olds (like Midshipman) are running in the Derby...I guess that's horse racing for you.
I would rather Stardom Bound win the derby, but The Pamplemousse is more probable becasue he is a male, and he is more of the better horse I think, but I love them both!

The horse racing business is full of creeps and a-holes
A lot of race horses get sent to slaughter houses...The owner of unbridled song was starving some of his old race horses..he just left them to die.
Horse racing has a dark side.

Everything to do with horses has a dark side.
Terribly sad, but true.

I love both these horses! I picked Stardom Bound to win the BC JVF last fall, and I think she still has a lot to prove. Bring on the Ashland Stakes!
And The Pamplemousse is going off in the Santa Anita Derby in a few weeks! Best of luck!

No doubt about it: The Pamplemousse all the way
