If you watch the video that shows the making of this great commercial I like that a fake hotel was constructed especially for this ad. These days they would have used just one window and multiplied the image...sometimes new technology isn't always better than the quality & reality of handmade.

This film was realised by Jean Paul Goude in Brazil, the building is a replica from de Cannes' Carlton Hotel, the idea, inspired by Mr Goude's wife was to apply a "south of France attitude" => women talk by the window directly to the street, to a rich (Chanel/cannes/Carlton) class, every woman, even rich, can suffer from love (especially french woman).

Fantastic ad. Chanel should go back to the dramatic, iconic ads instead of sticking with the new featurette, ridiculous, celebrity filled ones. These old ads really convey the sophistication of Chanel whereas the new ones convey the tacky, celebrity obsessed mindsets of any and every mediocre fashion house. Back to the good old days of cigarettes, courvoisier and black please.

@garnitaforvever It wasn't an actual building - I believe that it was built for the purpose of the advert and is a single faced structure. From recollection it was built somewhere in North Africa as a stand alone, hence the absence of other buildings. The costs were astronomical and the girls are wearing Chanel dresses, of course. The budget was that of a small film but is was argued that it was cheaper to build it and knock it down than bring, say Cannes or Monaco to a standstill.
