Lyrics, music and voice all work in sync with one another to make this one a great number. I totally agree Mukesh is the best; it is said: "Happiness is an interval between two sorrows." and Mukesh songs are sorrowful songs - we humans are more attuned to sorrows than joys and so Mukesh is closer to our hearts than those singers who sing joyful songs. This is not meant to belittle Rafi or Kishore Kumar rather it is a sad commentary on life.
