  • well we broke that record SMASHED it if u ask me

  • I remember this well. I was working at the Park Royal Hotel in Lonsdale street and an American tourist, whose room I was delivering to asked "is this normal"?

I followed his gazed out the sixth storey window to see a tsunami of red dust sweeping across the city. the strange thing about that always struck me about it was it was coming from the south????

  • I remember this dust storm, I grew up in melbourne from 1979 to 1985 (until we moved to perth) and we were stuck in our classroom (Altona Bay Catholic primary) and weren;'t allowed home until it died down. I remember a few dazed and confused birds flying into our classroom. My mum thought it was the end of the world, bless her. Us kids just thought it was great fun!!

  • ooooooooooooooo not climate change????

  • This was 8th February 1983, I remember that because it was my 12th birthday as well as being my first day in Year 7 at my new school. The storm hit during last period, which was French and we all thought a nuclear bomb had dropped. It took ages to get home because the dust got in the electrics of the train, and there were heaps of cancellations. And by the time I got home I couldn't go for a swim because the pool was literally orange from the dust.

  • @nupthatisit whereabouts in melbourne? thanks for the date of the storm

  • @gonadsftw My school was in Toorak but we lived in Vermont South, hence having to get the train :)

  • @nupthatisit i remember it too i was in grade 3 and i ran home from school. The front verandah was covered in red sand and the whole driveway.
