SPS Weather Cancellation Procedures

Before moving to Springfield my old school used to just look out the window on the street, and if cars went slow or if there was ice on the street, they would close the school. Ya, so what i had to have a shorter summer vacation by what-, a week?? -a week to close the school in sub-freezing temps, and to have kids, like me, a better Christmas at home with family. These people do NOT think of the kids at bus stops. Do you know it COSTS US!!! $240 TO RIDE THE BUS!!!!!!!!! FOR 1 SEMESTER!!!!!!

This is absolutely pitiful. When I can look outside and not be able to see the road because it is covered with ice there is absolutely no reason to have school. Also, tomorrow there will be a wind chill of -17 degrees. When SPS makes the decision does it not think of the elementary school kids who have to stand outside? At that temperature it takes 5 min to get frostbite. Bus stops weren't mentioned at all in your little video. Not only is your system overcomplicated-it's flawed...

I realize the roads are considered, but do you stop to consider the hundreds of small children who are walking in sub zero wind chills on road where there are no clear sidewalks or even sidewalks to begin with? This is my kids first year in Springfield and I am very concerned by this!!!

How can one make an educated decision on the safety of the public if the darkness of night prevents a thorough evaluation?

Do you REALLY need to do all of that? And do you REALLY have to do it at 3 in the morning? No, you don't. You don't cancel when every other school around us is cancelled. Thanks for the wonderful childhood memories.
