  • Maverick and The Big Valley were the best TV Westerns of all times. Nothing on TV now that can compare favorably with these Westerns.

  • < every1 calls me maverick that's cool !!!

  • I love maverick I watch the show all the time

  • Maverick is on Encore Westerns

  • Classic TV show with James Garner and Jack Kelly. Great song to go with Maverick

  • The only TV show I ever liked.

  • very fond memories age 56

  • "...Natchez to New Orleans..." I finally figured out that dang word! Lol...

    It's Natchez, Mississippi.

  • Riverboat ring your bell "Ding ding", Fair-thee-well Annabelle "Wooo".

  • Character actor Henry Daniel(Best remembered by moviegoers as "Sherlock Holmes"arch foe"Prof.Morriarity")appeared with Mr.Jack Kelly's"Bart Maverick" and that beautiful lady at the foot of the stairs.

  • My name is Maverick! :DDDDDD

  • My name in real life is Maverick XD

  • COOL MY NAME IS MAVERICK!!!

  • @GameStars1000 Greetings from a Maverick to a Maverick! :D

  • At :42, Garner in dual roles as both Pappy and Bret Maverick.

  • Thanks for the information, did Robert Colbert do anything else????

  • I watched this show as a kid, and love re-watching it now on the western channel. I thought I knew all the people that were on the show, the principles anyway, but saw an episode with someone I had never seen before. Brother's Bret, and Bart, cousin Bo, Roger Moore, but saw another cousin and can't recall ever seeing him before, anyone know his name and who he was????

  • @207nkf It was Robert Colbert with his two appearances as a third Maverick brother.

In 1961 Colbert was forced by the studio to dress exactly as lookalike James Garner had in his earlier role of Bret Maverick to play a character called "Brent Maverick." Thinking of the inevitable comparisons to Garner that were bound to ensue, Colbert famously said to his bosses, "Put me in a dress and call me Brenda, but don't do this to me!"

  • I love the way people are like "I loved watching this back in 1981" - and so on and so forth, but the thing I love the most is the way I STILL WATCH IT :D best show ever.

  • Thanks so much for uploading the theme. I'd been enjoying Bret Maverick, the 1981 series, streaming being done by the people who provide the flixs in the mail in red envelopes. Then, I guess, the contract with Warner expired, so it has been dropped. I wish Warner would release the original black and white episodes along with the 1981 series which was such a hoot to watch. It was canceled after one season, but I'd buy a disc.

  • Actually if I remember right, its easy to watch. In color to.

  • Actually if I remember right, its easy to watch. In color to.

  • My uncle name (Brett) is name after Bret Maverick. And my dad name me (Maverick) is not girl name, but my dad love this show!!

  • @callianloverfan That's funny, I love this show. I've seen it in three languages and I'm still watching it on the western Channel lol..

  • never knew a show existed only maverick I knew of was the movie.

  • i love to do cocaine and watch maverick, it is so pimp!

  • saw an episode of cheyenne with james garner and he was a preacher

  • @mjjcng8958 i saw michael landon and ray teal on there too, that show was great

  • @fishscale83 i was trying my hardest to tell my dad the other show he was from and i realizeed that he is also in rockford files. my dad watches cheyenne alot

  • @mjjcng8958 smart man!

  • Who was the other male actor at :50 - :56. The one who is giving Bart Maverick the evil eye as he escort the young lady down the stairs?

  • @jerrodsdad charachter actor Henry Daniell. Also appeared as Professor Moriarty in a number of Sherlock Holmes films

  • My mother loves this show.

  • Just saw the movie again on TV today and noticed how many of the stars, co-stars and extras were featured in the movie. They must have had some good times reminiscing!

  • Why no shots of Garner and Kelly (Bret and Bart Maverick) together in this? There were some great ones to be harvested from "Pappy."

  • I'm 16 and I absolutely love this show. My dad got me hooked. XD

  • @MiniVanillaWafers

Glad you found Maverick; one of the best.

  • Хуйня какято я хотел CSS

  • LOV THIS SOG

  • there were only two mavericks, the third was an impostor brought in by some stupid mogul trying to squeeze the last drops of blood from the series.

  • @doctornoooo NO THAT WAS REAL JK THAT SUCKED

  • Is Sandra, who had a superb website devoted to the series up about ten years ago but later took it down, out there anywhere? Sandra, if you see this, get in touch with me--this is Michael and I'd put your site back up in a minute if it still exists. If any of the girls from the Jack Kelly blog see this, please let Sandra know. And by the way, WHY are there no shots of Bret and Bart together in this video? Robt. Colbert later played Bart's brother Brent and Roger Moore played his cousin Beau.

  • This was one of my favorites as a kid so long ago, when we did not have over 200 cable TV stations. Anyway, I was real happy to see that James Garner fit right in to the Mel Gibson remake back in the 90's. As My Pappy used to say, I never said that.

  • maverick was the only early western show where the bad guy always got away instead of others like gunsmoke and have gun

  • Superb compilation and scoring!

    My hat's off to you!

  • Where's Roger Moore?? :-)

  • My dear old pappy enjoyed this show Sunday nights, so we boomlets got to enjoy it with him. Can't think of a better series, jam-packed with wit and wisdom.

The theme is one of the best as well.

  • This is one of my favorite Western Theme songs! God, they had so many great shows back then. What trash t.v. they have now!

  • This should be the thene song for the World Series of Poker

  • does any body knows the name of the 2 instrumental songs and the name of the group or composer that they play in some of the Maverick shows

  • This is good

  • Maybe the greatest tv western theme song ever. In 1959 there were 27 prime westerns. The era when men were men.

  • We lost Poor Jack Kelly..but..We still have the man..who "Brent Maverick" and he best personified the character..

    Mr.James Garner.

  • Hey, James Garner is Brett. I agree with you the rest of the way.

  • Maverick was one of my favorite shows, and James Garner the best of the two.

  • Jack Kelly (Bart Maverick) was my next door neighbor in Huntington Beach, California.

  • Did you know his pappy.

  • No I didn't. I really didn't know him too well either.

  • @hajune dont forget uncle bentley!!

  • @elliott021 I know Hugh Morgan. He lives in Huntington Beach, California.

  • WOW!!! You know Hugh Morgan!!! Who's Hugh Morgan?

  • Is he alive?

  • Is who alive?

If you mean Jack Kelley, Bart Kelley, then no. He died years ago.

  • Sorry. I mean Bart Maverick.

  • Hey, yes he is

  • @elliott021 My favorite was Jack Kelly. I bet you could tell alot of stories about him! I was always upset that jack never got the attention and credit that Garner did.

    Shame on them...

  • to bloggers-please ask the minds that run youtube--not to continue to remove good shows and good pieces of film--pretty soon youtube will become unwatchable

  • Always considered James Garner as Maverick and Kelly as the other guy. Did you know that Roger Moore was also a member of the family

  • I remember watching this show with my dad when I was a kid...this sure brings back memories!! Thanks!

  • Do not say dad when describing watching Maverick. Say, My dear ole pappy

  • @hajune,

I remember watching this show with my dear ole pappy when I was a young'un....there....that better??

  • knightryderwn Very good! I hope your dear ole pappy taught you how to play poker well too. Remember to always play your jacks and queens ,that is if you are going to New Orleans.

  • Dang! I knew that this was the REAL theme song from Maverick, as opposed to the tarted-up version that was created for the series' later years and pressed on "TV Themes" CDs. Same as The Rifleman! Thank goodness I found both "Mk. I" versions of these glorious songs here on YouTube! The original versions speak to the bald-faced romantacisim we had with the West in the 50s and 60s. Maverick is the legend of the West!

  • James Garner and Jack Kelly were great as the Maverick brothers. One of the best western shows and definitely one of the best theme songs.

  • What ever happened to Chuck Conners? Sure Jack Kelley is good but Wasnt Chuck Conners good to?

  • Chuck Connors was good, too, as the Rifleman. He died in 1992, just three days after Jack Kelly passed away.

  • @ModernScreen I agree Two Great actors =D

  • I thought it was Jacks and Queens.

  • My dear ole pappy and I watched this program together. Learned my poker skills from the influence of this show. If you play poker just remember you can not get beat if you hold Jackson queens. Be careful with the other ones.

  • I love the Maverick type character, he's not a coward but he will avoid violence and danger where ever possible.

  • As my dear old pappy used to say, "Turn off that TV and do your homework!" Screw homework; I learned more from this show, like how to be smooth as the handle on a gun and wild as the wind in Oregon and how to dress really smart. What a great show this was!

  • @KaptKan1

get encore westerns, they have maverick on every night

  • This is not TOP GUN . Maverick is the name of this old black and white TV series.

  • Not born yet or a little kid'

  • where's Tom Cruise?

  • Amazing Old series. I thank encore westerns for broadcasting it.

  • There was also Brent Maverick..Just watched 2 episodes tonight on the Western Channel..The one with Brett had Clint Eastwood,Abbey Dalton, and uncle Joe(Edgar Buchanan) from Petticoat Junction on it..lol..The other with Bart had a young Robert Conrad on it..Great Series

  • Bret Maverick ( James Garner ) was my favorite. Great Show,, thanks for posting,,brings back fond memories of an easier time.

  • this has become my favorite tv show. i watc hit just about every night on encore westerns

  • My favorite quote":

Bret.when faced with a gunslinger...."I have a brother who can outdraw me anytime he wants....: "He is known as the second slowest gun in the West"

  • Beau Maverick! the third Maverick

  • thats pappy

  • Pappy?

  • the father "my pappy used to say" etc

  • thats their father, my pappy used to say, etc etc

  • there was Bret and Bart but there was a third Maverick played by Roger Moore and I can't remember his name. Anyone? I'll google it

  • Beau

  • Why does he have Bicycle playing cards? The bicycle wasn't invented yet when these stories happened.

  • Actually, Bicycles have been around since the late 1800's, so arguably, they could very well have existed at the time this show takes place. Bicycle playing cards have been around since 1885, so they could have, as well. : )

  • I just put on George Thorogood's 1985 album (yes, a real vinyl record album!), and the last song on side two was... a cover of the Maverick theme from the TV show, which led me to this clip.

Being 55 years old I remember watching this show with my family in the sixties.

    Ah yes, fond TV memories...

  • @mickflaire I watched it with my family in the fifties and sixties. (Uh-uh, I won't tell my age, LOLOLOLOL).

  • All of you are arguing the correct spelling of his last name. Bet you didn't know that James Garner's real name was James Baumgarner... Him and Clint Walker "Cheyenne" were both Merchant Marines as youngsters... Just an FYI

  • @GarrettC04 Not Baumgarner, Bumgarner, if I'm not mistaken. God, no wonder he changed it!

  • "My pappy said, 'Stay clear of weddings, because one of them is liable to be your own'".--Bret Maverick

  • I just heard Bart Maverick quote that "weddings" saying, too, in the "Royal Four Flush" episode of "Maverick" on Encore Westerns this evening.

  • I watched that episode too. Haha

  • Bret and Bart were cool guys who dressed with real style. I loved this show!

  • Who the hell is James Gardner...it's GARNER! And nobody,,,with the exception of Clint Walker...was ever more handsome!

  • Looks like the tally is11-2-1 favoring James Gardner from replies of this site. Both were great but as I said the women I have run into continue to put him at the head of the "stud muffin" list. James Gardner also was very popular with his fellow workers. No ego problems, he treated all with respect and dignity. During the emmy ceremonies he drove to them in his pick up truck. They almost did not let him in. Julie Andrews and Jim were like_________ this.

  • Still don't know this James Gardner of whom you speak. However, James GARNER always seemed more of a 'man's man' to me. He was one of my dad's favorite actors. No doubt Garner's a sweetheart in real life. His screen persona just never did it for me. Jack Kelly as Bart Maverick has a suavity that is very appealing to me, tho. And, YT isn't the only barometer of taste. Check out eBay some time and note the $ that some of the Kelly/Bart memorabilia fetches. The man definitely has fans. :)

  • Modern Srceen Just repeating what the babes have told me. I am not an expert on men's looks. Too busy looking at the women. You are the first who has mentioned him. Such matters are nor right or wrong. It's just a matter of different strokes for different folks. Glad though you wanted Jack Kelley to be your "stud muffin". It's nice though that we can dream isn't it.? Going to bed now. Marilyn is calling me.

  • I remember when Roger Moore was in Maverick as cousin to the brothers

  • 懐かしいです。アップして下さった方に感謝しますありがとう昔を思い出します

  • I was a kid when I watch this in the 60s and the theme song was always a pleasant one to listen to.

  • Comment removed

  • James Garner, Jack Kelley, Clint Walker, Gene Barry, John Russell, Ty Hardin...they were men! ...not the "girliemen" on the screen today!

  • As a little kid, I wondered who "Annabelle" was - as in, "Riverboat ring your bell / Fare thee well, Annabelle". This made me think that there was a regular character named Annabelle who was supposed to be in every episode. Well, at age 6 or so, what do you expect?

  • I have watched Maverick for years but just recently realized how dreamy Bart Maverick was! I 'm in love with Bart Maverick! I watch this clip everyday!

  • jeanineruby. I have asked women who they think was the best looking actor ever. James Gardner comes up more then any other one. As an All American guy, I can understand why. It's nice to be a Maverick

  • Never heard of James Gardner, but Jack Kelly gets my vote as one of the best looking actors ever. When Kelly and James Garner appear together in an episode of 'Maverick', I barely glance at Garner. Garner was attractive, but Kelly was breathtakingly handsome as Bart Maverick. And that voice! Jim Garner may have been the 'star' of 'Maverick', but Jack Kelly's Bart is the king of hearts to a lot of ladies, even today.

  • I agree! Jack Kelly as Bart Maverick was incredible. He was very handsome, had a beautiful smile and gorgeous eyes. In my opinion, Bart is the "real" Maverick. I like the "Bret" episodes, but the ones with "Bart" are the best!

  • Favorite television show of all time.

  • Man, i love this show. I watch it at least once a day, 4 times a week. But when i started watching this, it bacame my 2nd fav western series tied with The Gene Autry Show(sp?)...But my favorite is Bat Masterson. Im just glad it was easy to find this on Youtube.

  • After James Garner left the series, Warner Brothers brought in a James Garner look a like...Robert Colbert. He played Brent Maverick for a couple of episodes. He said" Put me in a dress and call me Brenda, but don't have me teplace Jim Garner." He was right...he couldn't.

  • I remember that-i only recall Colbert playing Brent Maverick in one episode. He was in more than one?he had the good sense to realize there was no way he could replace James Garner.I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Garner outside a Drs. office in L.A.He was very cordial, and when i asked for his autograph,he made his driver wait as he signed and chatted with me.I told him what a big Maverick fan i was,and he laughed and said,"you will love the movie then"-as this was the time the movie came out.

  • I am 51 years old and DVR these everyday. Great show, great supporting character actors. I have to disagree with Roy Huggins regarding Jack Kelly. Jack was great, and would a producer really want a clone of James Garner? If you watch the two episodes with Robert Colbert as Brent Maverick, you would understand. Jack was great, so was Roger Moore.

  • My father records these as well everyday on stars.. I've gotten into watching myself, and really enjoy them.

  • James garner was absolutely GORGEOUS!

  • my dad was in a car accident this summer, and i introduced him to youtube and he favorited this on our computer before the accident. My dad's name was bret. he was named after this series. RIP-dad, i love you.

  • So sorry for your loss

  • this was my dads favorite show ever. it was his eternal heartbreak he had daughters, he wanted 2 sons to name brett and bart.

  • I would imagine that your Dad was very satisfied that he had daughters. Dad's have a way of feeling blessed no matter what children he's given.

  • well, he got mad when my sister had her first son. she named him stephen, and he literally made her cry, he got his feelings hurt she didn't name him bret. he carried on, and made her cry. he sulked like a baby.

  • Try having to listen to this three times a night and six days a week... you will start to loathe all westerns! Lol! But this is a good show... definitely a classic! The music and tune are just SO ANNOYING!

  • your comment is ANNOYING! i have always loved this show and theme!

  • Amazing. lol. One day in History when I was bored and couldn't think this song came up in my head and I wrote the lyrics down on my paper instead of notes. When my teacher came over and looked at it he asked me what song that was. When I told him he just looked at me for a minute and walked away. lol.

  • このテレビは子供の頃良く見ました大好きでした実に懐かしいです涙が溢れてきます動画をアップされた方に感謝します

  • Maverick, the Rifleman, Wagon Train, Lawman...all those shows were so cool to me as a kid ...and still are !

  • The Rifleman! Oh I loved Chuck Connors in that!

  • God this is the best show ever...

  • Many Maverick episodes had plots involving swindles and shady business deals. In one episode a businessman was trying to sell some stock to some investors (except instead of a computerized trading floor he was taking bids on a blackboard). It seems so relevant to what's happening today.

  • John McCain and Sarah Palin aren't Mavericks!! James Garner and Jack Kelley were and will always be the only TRUE Mavericks!

  • mccain and palin? Lol what brought it up that theyre "mavericks?"

  • They claimed to be different from traditional Republicans. Hence the Maverick title. Though I seem to recall only McCain calling himself a Maverick.

  • Who shaves fully dressed?

  • Roger Moore was HORRIBLE on this show

  • i thought he was rather good tbh. I still love bret and bart though better

  • Commenting on the Robert Colbert "Brent"...I remember seeing an episode where he played Brent and Bart referring to him as "brother"...I just thought maybe he was another one. He did look alot like Bret...his dress his way of wearing his hat...but like you said...not the same character.

  • I remember Maverick as if it were yesterday. I was in love with James Garner 50 years ago and still am today. I recall Robert Colbert...a James Garner look a like...saying "put a dress on me and call me Brenda, but don't make me try to replace Jim Garner."

  • You can't beat this! Maverick, in my opinion, is better than Bat Masterson, Gene Autry, Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Cimarron Strip all put together! Encore Westerns plays this show all the time. It's kinda sad, the classic western has become a dead genre. Some one needs to bring it back and do it right!

  • For two episodes after "Bret" left, there was a "Brent" Maverick whom Jack Kelly called "brother". Brent was the actor Robert Colbert who resembled James Garner but didn't have the style and wit of Garner. I became a fan of James Garner at age 11, and have remained one to this day. What an original!

  • I know everybody likes Bret but I'm a Bart girl :). He was so sweet.

  • Maverick was my favorite even though I was only 9-10 when it was on. I still enjoy watching it on Encore Westerns! James Garner was awesome and I've grown to like Jack Kelly as well. Roger Moore was more fun when he WASN'T playing Beau Maverick and the writing started to deteriorate more into a standard shoot 'em ups rather than well-written and witty.

  • I am glad that Encore Westerns shows MAVERICK every day. I watch it when I can..if I'm not working. I LOVE this theme...probably my favorite them song. Thought it seems to me I remember when the part...."Riverboat ring your bell..." there would be a bell ringing...maybe I was just dreaming it...seems like it would have fit right in. Shows on TV just don't compare to the shows from back then. I rememmber watching this with my folks when I was a kid.

  • You weren't dreaming. The bell ringing and the riverboat's whistle blowing began over the end titles of the fifth and final season of "Maverick" (1961-62).

  • Just wanted to comment...you were right, I WASN'T...I was just watching an episode on the ENCORE channel and I heard the Bell and Whistle...LOVE that show.

  • OOPS...meant to say, I WASN'T Dreaming...

  • Bet you can't name the actor that played the recurring character, "Beau Maverick."

  • It was James gardner with face make up

  • Roger Moore played the part after Garner left the show, before Moore played "The Saint" or replaced Sean Connery as James Bond (the best Bond was actually George Lazenby, though). Oddly, Moore had already played Garner scripts on his earlier series "The Alaskans," which often used recycled "Maverick" scripts, changing only the names and a minimum of the dialogue, a typical Warner Bros. gambit for their TV shows at the time: they'd rotate the same script thru all their series to save on writers!

  • This is all from one episode, did anyone notice? its the pappy episode!!!!!!!!

  • The first shots are from "Shady Deal at Sunny Acres"

  • Maverick is the greatest show ever, i take like 5 vicodins and enjoy!

  • John McCain is no Maverick!! James Garner was and will always be the REAL MAVERICK. He was smooth as a handle on a gun...

  • Riverboat ring your bells

  • Great TV show, They don't make shows like that any more!
