İ don't know much but Miyairi school works in the style of Soshu-den.
So starting from this point theri swords can be a little more wider and in sosho kitae lamination as a swords of Soshu-den style.
Sorry if i am making a mistake but it is all i know and the rest is jsut logic.

@enadon1 it might be borax which sometime might be used to prevent rusting between layers
