  • he is, beside ludwig streicher, one of my favorite players. I wanna be this good some day as well. It sounds just like standing in a room full of happy people…

  • Thanks a lot! Dittersdorf is a complete surprise for me, and I belive for many people also: his musicality is pretty akin to that of Mozart's.

  • Bravo!!!! I love so much this concert!!! Tank's for this performace, orchestration and cadenza!!! Bravo!!!

  • 1:52 cool smooth movement of your arm ;)

  • nice playing, interesting candenza. bravo

  • is this famous oeuvre copyright protected?

  • What an excellent sound and tone he has! As well as the rest of the orchestra

  • Fantastic playing! What kind of solo strings do you use?

    Gruss, Horst (2.Vl. LSO)

  • I really have to be honest but to me you seem to be one of the best double bass players over the world. Meanwhile I have seen many of your videos and you inspired me very much to go for double bass lessons as well. It is a very sweet instrument and with your interpretations you really move people and you really impress people. How old is your bass by the way?

  • Great performance. Very witty and humorous playing!

  • Fantastic Cadenza, beats mine.

  • the best version on youtube!

  • i'm sorry about my following comment! this man plays truly fantastic but the double bass just isn't a solo instrument... it was made to accompany other instruments and that's what it sounds like! every other instrument is more capable of soloing!

  • @mortalfrog0815 What trash.

The bass has the capability to play solo works just like any other instrument, and bassists don't play for decades just to play accompaniments and meld in with everybody else. Your opinion is wholly ignorant to Double Bass repertoire and I'd wager you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @Mikeinatorable of course the double bass was made to accompany, i know that's frustrating! when i wrote that comment i knew that bass players will hate me but don't tell me i don't know what i'm talking about... i think it sounds bad as a solo instrument, if you don't agree that's fine for me but my opinion is my opinion! you don't have to give a crap about it...

  • @mortalfrog0815 No matter what you think the bass was made to do, we are as much soloists as violinists are. Whatever conclusion you draw from the multitudes of bass-orientated pieces, the fact that a solo featured at a theater can sell the seats out as well as a violinist and that there is an entire genre of music that incorporates bass solos as a regular part of its music is up to you. You don't frustrate me--your ignorance towards bass repertoire is your own problem, not mine.

  • @mortalfrog0815 I agree with you, and I have played the bass for 40 years. to me the thing is made for continuo work or 8 of us roaring at the bottom of a great symphony.

the tone of the bass is IMO too coarse and plaintive to be an effective solo instrument, and I certainly do not approve of bass players gate crashing a string quartet and thinking they can get away with doing a cello part an 8ve higher than written.

are there any other than bass players who like it as a solo?

  • @mortalfrog0815

yes, basses were made for accompaniment..just like the other instruments like viols and violins and just like that today basses are equal with them like a solo instrument..the idea of the bass only for accompaniment is starting to vanish in the1700s btw..saying those words in times like these when everything is possible..is stupid..I've seen bass virtuosos playing better than cellists and violinists and the sound was GREAT so the problem is in your ears and your idea for the bass

  • exelente contrabajista! Sonido y Diccion realmente geniales..

  • What a brilliant performance!

  • Dear vorosueca:

no, this is not "Viennese tuning", but standard solo tuning in fourths. I am not interested in historical bass tunings.

  • i wish i was this amazing

  • I have a question... Why do you choose to use only horns? Didn't you think to add oboes to this arrangment, instead of the flutes?

By the way, I love this version, is my favorite! The very best of all!

  • Hello "jarabass". I find it more elegant without any woodwinds. No matter if obeos or flutes, woodwinds would play unisono with violins, so they are in fact dispensable for this kind of piece, so I definitelly don't attend to add them. By the way, the original (lost) Haydn's bass concerto was orchestrated just the same way. I am glad you also like it.

  • Incredible!

The original is so much better from the well known version, anyhow the performance is stunning...

  • I really like that version and can I ask from were I can get it?

can i buy it from online store?

  • i believe they are playing t\his too fast.

  • JESUS CHRIST THIS IS GODLY

    koussevitsky is too emo

  • bravo maestro!

  • His instrument -ahem- is a little tiny for my pleasure.

  • @Kuzya3k that sounded so wrong in so many ways LOL!!!

  • @ClassicSteinwayJonas lol I don't know if I meant what I said when I wrote it.

  • @Kuzya3k LOL!!

  • This concert is mencioned in Patrick Suskind book: "the bass".

  • Dear Bozo, this is absolutely fantastic. I completely agree that the original versions of these classical works should be studied and performed: what most people know are essentially transcriptions. I hope that a critical edition of the 1st concerto may be made available soon... do you know if it will be available anytime soon?

  • What do you think about vienna tuning? Every concerto in this region was written, in 18th century, for this kind of tuning, including this concerto. (A. Meier - Konzertante Musik..., you can find information about this). Greetings from Bratislava. A. Jaro

  • Vazeny pane Jaro,

  • could somebody translate the answer on Jeoreo's question?

  • @FranconianBassplayer have you heard of the internet?

  • @MadeInKorea02 wtf?! -.-

  • @FranconianBassplayer copy and paste into google translator :P cmon now

  • Fantastic performance Bozo! Real joy to listen!
