I used a natural plaster. A good clay and then mixed in an equal mixtures of sand. I also mixed in straw with it for binding fibers. after all of the imperfection were filled in (2-4 coats) I switched to a silica sand and left out the straw (straw will absorb moisture and swell cracking the plaster). Once the final finnish coat was on I painted on a linseed oil coat (2 or 3) to repell the water from rain etc.
