A wonderful performance of this most unique piece. "Symphony"? How many symphonies last only 20-some minutes? More like a "concerto". Yet so perfect, so seamless. So idyllic, yet so mighty! IMO this is the most perfect "symphony" ever written. Bravo to Jean Sibelius and to Mr. Holmes!
There is only a live audio file that I have. I will be happy to email it to you, or send a downloadable internet link. Please send me your email address in a private email.
The next transition 0'13"> is wonderfully incisive & pleasingly paced, leading effectively into the third awesome climax 0'51">. Holmes controls the tension perfectly, holding back until the reprise of the trombone theme 1'15"> before piling on the conflicting layers of sound to build a terrifying, almost unbearable peak of dissonance 2'30">2'41" then releasing it steadily and masterfully via the impassioned string line 2'42"> to the comforting 3'31"> and stoic ending: a most moving conclusion.
Kudos to you, Mr. Holmes, for an outstanding performance of this symphony. Tempi were perfectly judged, textures were nicely balanced. Even a great "slideshow" accompaniment. Any recordings available?
Thank you! All of my recordings are live and were made by my single stereo mic. Most of the ones I want released are on my YouTube channel. Have you seen/heard the others?
