What I don't get about this: When one of the mermaids bit Mana, she instantly turned into her form. So, why would they have to EAT her instead of just taking turns biting the poor girl? Or was it just a temporary effect that wears off faster than when they would have eaten her? Is this explained later in the anime?

@innocentaerith The story itself is fascinating; it's just the execution that blows. The artwork and animation is lazy/digital/stiff and there seems to be a good deal of censorship at work. The OVAs (Particularly Mermaid's Forest, although Mermaid's Scar is also awesome) are superior in every way. They're wonderfully macabre and as far as I'm concerned they're right up there with the "great" animes like Akira, etc. Nasty little horror stories

(It sucks for her because she ate the mermaid flesh at an old age.) The point of eating the humans for the mermaids is so they can take their form, which is why they want to eat Mana.
