  • My english teacher showed me leonard cohen, and im only 13, and now he's one of my favorites ever. Thanks mr. o'neil :D

  • @careypricejr very cool teacher, you're lucky.

  • 23HappyApples - your point is very true and I agree! :)

I love his voice... so distinctive and song writing at the same level as Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.

  • damn i wish i could mimic his voice .. even if the only time i could do it was when i was alone.. this song just doesnt sound right without it

  • A minor but unforgettable Gem in LC's mature production. Now he could express just about anything, seemingly without effort. This is like something you think you've heard in a dream and that surprises you when hearing it again. Why couldn't he have continued working with the producer John Lissauer, who contributed so much to the songs on "New skin for the old ceremony"?! Just listen to those discrete but colorful accents of chamber music and jazz!

  • A knee in my BAAAALLLSSS

  • simply moving, lyrically.

  • Another incredible song from the legend.

  • @motejc You are right to say it and I agree this does not sound like LC.

  • @ultrabrougham Goodness, it definitely is. Hard to mistake that voice.

  • @motejc No, it is.

  • great lyricist

  • I only knew the excellent Fatima Mansions cover before this. I always thought it sounded like Cohen. Brilliant song!

  • Beautiful at 1:06...Heck beautiful all the way through!!

  • Why are so many strangers getting angry with other strangers on You Tube over BS.... WTH? These people don't even know each other, and posting negative crap for all to read and feed off. Stupid how people get so easily sucked in to this.

  • @23HappyApples It's the antichrist , the Death and their followers that are around.

Some of these rude comments come from people, some come from robots that have been put on the web.

Be patient, the rude people will realize what is going on and change their minds. The robots will be destroyed.

  • @23HappyApples

it is the egomaniac world we live in.

each one of them thinks that his taste and education has to be better than the other. its a reflect of how frivolous the modern people has become due to massive manipulation.

  • uclrichard, your very vague recollection of paradise lost is an insult to milton and fans of literature everywhere. and how does bowie fall on the same scale as milton and shakespeare??

  • I love you Leonard !!!

  • @sara7cobain I love you too

  • Great Song!

  • I heard this song for the first time 26 years ago and has always fascinated me. Thank you for upload.

  • I think I first heard it in 1975. No wonder he was the poet Laureate of Canada, his imagery never fails to intrigue me. If I could be music, I'd be Leonard's music!

  • magnificent,

    seeing lenny in Melbourne concert,

    24th

  • a masterpiece - reminds me of adam's reaction to eve in book nine of 'paradise lost' - after they fuck each other for the first time after the fall...he feels nothing but shame and horror about his sexualty - she reacts to his shame with anger and rebuke...

cohen reinvents milton's drama in secular and personal terms.

in both cases - it is memorably bleak and utterly compelling.

thank god for milton and cohen. (and shakespeare, shelley, dylan and bowie - and many others)

  • Oh please........you analy retentive student.........go and have a life and then give a comment from LIFE, not your intellectually weak accademeic middle class blandness.

    ie. get a life

He's brilliant...you are not. Get a life and you may be.

  • Least he doesn't go around attacking strangers for their opinions..

    Don't hate. Appreciate.

  • You can take your blue-collar hero bullshit, and cram it up your ass douche bag. Unless, of course, you mean something else, which is impossible to tell based on your preschool level communication skills.

Man, to be physically older, and mentally younger... I really can't imagine a worse fate.

    =)

  • Bring me a Leonard Cohen world.

  • Beautiful

  • Brilliant.

  • He's such a great poet

  • This song is from the album "New Skin For The Old Ceremony". 1974. thanks for posting this. Brilliant.
