A minor but unforgettable Gem in LC's mature production. Now he could express just about anything, seemingly without effort. This is like something you think you've heard in a dream and that surprises you when hearing it again. Why couldn't he have continued working with the producer John Lissauer, who contributed so much to the songs on "New skin for the old ceremony"?! Just listen to those discrete but colorful accents of chamber music and jazz!
Why are so many strangers getting angry with other strangers on You Tube over BS.... WTH? These people don't even know each other, and posting negative crap for all to read and feed off. Stupid how people get so easily sucked in to this.
each one of them thinks that his taste and education has to be better than the other. its a reflect of how frivolous the modern people has become due to massive manipulation.
uclrichard, your very vague recollection of paradise lost is an insult to milton and fans of literature everywhere. and how does bowie fall on the same scale as milton and shakespeare??
I think I first heard it in 1975. No wonder he was the poet Laureate of Canada, his imagery never fails to intrigue me. If I could be music, I'd be Leonard's music!
a masterpiece - reminds me of adam's reaction to eve in book nine of 'paradise lost' - after they fuck each other for the first time after the fall...he feels nothing but shame and horror about his sexualty - she reacts to his shame with anger and rebuke...
cohen reinvents milton's drama in secular and personal terms.
in both cases - it is memorably bleak and utterly compelling.
thank god for milton and cohen. (and shakespeare, shelley, dylan and bowie - and many others)

23HappyApples - your point is very true and I agree! :)
I love his voice... so distinctive and song writing at the same level as Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.

@23HappyApples It's the antichrist , the Death and their followers that are around.
Some of these rude comments come from people, some come from robots that have been put on the web.
Be patient, the rude people will realize what is going on and change their minds. The robots will be destroyed.
