The guy who invented Boney M (Frank Farian) was a real genius. He just hired some dancers to pretend they were the band but made the music himself.

He used all kinds of old traditionals, songs whose copyright had lapsed or fallen into the public domain, so he made an obscene amount of money, basically he could just keep all the money to himself.
