Pretty Lights (Derek Vincent Smith) is a producer.

He creates these tunes from scratch with his own synths ,bass and SFX (With sampling included) which is what a producer does. He is djing here BUT its all of his own originally produced material.

So you COULD call him a Producer/DJ

DJing has become digital but PL's production is far above anyone else's right now. I just laugh when people say "all he does is press play" because if that's their argument then they're really just saying "i don't know what i'm talking about" haha.

He's performing 100% of his OWN music live on a Midi Controller (used to use a Trigger Finger last time I saw him). He's NOT DJ'ing in any of the sense that you're stereotyping him. He's triggering all of the percussion and all of the individual parts of his songs and effects live on the fly.
