its cool but they should make them like in the 80s with a solid front axle. 80s chevys were the best off road trucks for their solid front axles. dodge is keeping solid axles on their heavy duty why not Chevrolet. IFS is comfortable but off roading is not about comfort its about off roading lol.

@actionsports111 1994 S-10 had 120K on clock when I rear-ended a Dodge HD. Broke my heart, had the 4.3L V-6 would still spin the tires with the A/C running. Replaced that with a used 1993 Lumina 3.1L V-6. It lasted until about 265K and Year 2008. That was replaced with a new 2008 Silverado. I've already put 60K on theclock, it's that much fun to drive IMHO.

What I don't get is why the front bumper is so low to the ground. I mean isn't the Z71 suppose to be the off road version, but yet they have that plastic lip on the bottom of the front bumper that's only 9" off of the ground. That doesn't give you a whole lot of approach angle, nor a lot of clearance from snow and whatever else you encounter. My stock 1988 Toyota pickup has the bottom of the front bumper 18 1/2" off of the ground, that's over twice the clearance. Hell my 2WD Tundra is like 16".
That is an electronic locker. The G80 Eaton locking diff does it automatically. It senses rear wheel RPMs and when there is a 25-30 RPM difference it locks the axle.
I think they were talking in terms of coming standard on pickup's and operational performance.. I have a 2008 silverado, and a 2002 HD before that, and I would put the G-80 eaton locker up against any truck makers limited slip rear, or locker... I think GM did a good thing with that style locker.. My friend has a 2008 f-150, it is a good truck as well, but there limited slip rear seems sloppy, and not as effective.

Hey that us cool. I am somewhat into drag racing my self.. I do prefer the pickup scene though. The duramax rates very very high amongst the competition. The duramax is a phenomenal motor as well as the allison transmission it has on it.. It is a "cant go wrong setup". The competition has good diesels as well, but I much prefer the chevy with the duramax. Awesome power, great fuel mileage, and a super quiet idle on it!! 5 star rating by me!!

Yes, they are very good off road. I never had my HD stuck, nor brokedown becuase of off roading. They are very reliable truck's!! I had the 6.0 v8 in it, and it is a phenomenal motor! The duramax is a fast motor, but it all depends on how much extras you have added to your motor to upgrade it. Cummins and the powerstroke are fast diesels too, but you have to upgrade the motor's as well.. I would say the duramax would come out on top, but then again I am die hard chevy guy!!
A lot of times you need the suspension capability because of a rough trail even though the traction is relatively good. I myself like to have 4x4 with a Z71 package but down south the 2wd Z71 is a good idea.

Trust me, I agree. I have an 2008 Z-71 and the first thing I did was put a skyjacker leveler kit in it.. No problem with clearence now!!!

A lot of times you need the suspension capability because of a rough trail even though the traction is relatively good. I myself like to have 4x4 with a Z71 package but down south the 2wd Z71 is a good idea.
