That's some nice looking equipment! Don't see much Tandberg around these days, definitely one of the nicest and fanciest tape decks I've seen. I knew someone with a Dragon a while back and he ended up giving it away because that door mechanism broke on it and he claimed when he tried to get it fixed no one had the parts. Doesn't look like that Tandberg will be breaking down any time though. What kind of speakers/amplifer are you running all this on?
Tandberg's metering system was a quick peak-type meter, not a VU (ie; slow measurement) type.
The 3014A was, I believe the only (high-end) consumer deck to employ such a metering system. This coupled with its sound quality, tape calibration feature, and precise controls made the 3014A my favorite analogue tape deck off all time. I have plenty of tapes made with this one. Too bad Tandberg stop producing them. I believe they were the BEST.
The deck supports dolby b and c. But i did use it with a dbx in the past. Personally DBX is superior to anything i ever heard. The thing about it is that of course you have to play it back on a dbx else you get a very jumpy effect
Fantastic 3000 series family. When Tandberg was in audio, you had to have this stuff. Incredible. I had the 3014. Great Dire Straights tune too. Great video.
dire straights sounds good on any system lol

I would turn down input level if I was to record the material shown in the video.
Even if it was a metal tape.

For all of you out there wondering. The deck is not playing. I hooked it up to an auxiliary source of audio to demonstrate the meters

Without a doubt, you won this round.

There is no way this is really coming from the cassette. There is no hiss which all magnetic recordings have to some extent.
The only way I could see this be possible is with a chrome cassette using dbx or Dolby C.

Of course it is !
This is high-end cassette.
You only need Dolby B with these.
I have a Tandberg 440A which sounds just as good.
