@plainlake The United States Air Force uses cluster bombs not because they want to kill civilians, but because they are effective against armored vehicles used by insurgents who have already committed atrocities such as the 9/11 attacks. My grandfather is a Brig. general who flew recon missions in Vietnam, successfully landed his plane with a damaged wing, saving the co-pilot, served in the armed forces for 30 years and helped develop the Navstar GPS system. @plainlake Question whatever you like, but I'll tell you this: cluster bombs were designed to destroy large convoys of vehicles where the use of missiles would require them to each have huge amounts of extremely powerful and unstable explosive that would no doubt be harmful in other ways, like with agent orange in Vietnam. The fact that you would suggest the U.S. would use these bombs to kill civilians just so there would be fewer potential recruits saddens me more deeply than you can imagine.

And if you really want to talk about shitty engines, lets talk about the POS ALF-31 series engine in the SU series of fighters. Russians are lucky to get an engine to stay in the airframe for more than 100 hours. They are a tender engine, suseptible to compressor stalls during high AoA manuevers, have shitty fuel control, and also suffer from blade errosion.
