Just that 90% of "indie bands" aren't signed too them. Oasis for instance. They have always been signed to Sony BMG - right from 1994. The creation records thing was just to give them a bit of street cred.
Quick tip. Listen to American indie/low fi/experimental bands.
Battles/Animal Collective - people like that, Probably a decade ahead of anything in the UK.
From what I see they are still just doing the strokes post punk stuff. Fair enough with the Libertines doing their version, but now people are copying the copiers!
Yeah NYC is where its at.There's some English guy DJ'ing now on KROCK, he said the other day this is why he jumped the pond because over there he said they don't have a clue about music. Being In America I couldn't say either way.
interesting how the strokes and the kings broke in the uk first though the british fall in and out of love with there music where it seems the americans have to warm up first but thats only the way i see it

im just getting back into indie and bands like this inspire me in a fresh new way thats been in short supply theres only so many time i can listen to mid 80s music as all good sound should
I don't know what point is trying to be made here about music scenes. surely you can listen to whatever you like, not what a scene dictates to you.
Music scenes come and go, and it is pretty narrow minded to follow what is currently fashionable. well written songs and good music transcend that, right?
well said squire, in the end all musics based on inspiration whether from environment or other musicians. plus the beatles were from england, who influence a majority of bands/movements in the world now, so cj can go eat his sour grapes while we can "stake that claim" if thats all hes interested in
shut up alternative music is not liked by the masses hence alternative, and indie means individual. you can like pop if you want just don t wine at every one else

"Indie" means signed to an Independent label.
There are no indie labels in the UK. It's an american thing.
Even Domino/Creation are owned by the big boys. Universal/Sony BMG i'm told
yes but a lot of indie bands are signed to big labels like art brut or if you look in time nin and even the chilli s still fall in the bracket of indie/ indie rock which keeps and individual group of suport
There are plenty of Independent Labels in the UK. We are on Stolen Recording which is entirely independent.
We receive no major support or funding. The majority of our peers in the industry are on 'independent' labels who are controlled my major labels.
It means we have control over what we do and how we do it. Our videos, all our art work and most importantly concentrating on writing the best songs we can.
god to hear you will be happy that and album is on its way from play and glad to see you are true indie sry youre next play exeter let me no when you go stoke way as would like to suport you
good luck son and keep up the good work disco and mr understanding probably the best song ive come across in years ill be goin fookin mental wit ya at leeds
you do music because you love it, or otherwise you'D go to some big producer & get castet or whatever... doing the same thing all over is a waste of time though but what do you say to arctic monkeys rockin your sox off?

I went to school with some of these guys. It's so weird to see them being all famous and stuff. fucking cool though i must say, and wow, what a band. they've got a kind of early Pink Floyd/mystery jets sound about them.
stop getting angry with each other and just enjoy the music, you sad people.

I couldn't care less what people listen too.
Just listening to the song and commenting on the fact that someone was claiming "indie" means "individual". When it obviously doesn't.
I have an ELO CD. Doesn't mean I am waiting for the second coming of Prog

yeah I know. Not arguing.
Just stating that "Indie" comes from the genre of 80s American guitar bands that were signed to American indie labels - Pavement etc
I hate indie anyway. Used to like it, but it's way too pop these days.
All style, no substance. Skinny jeans, Toni and Guy hair do, a few dodgy guitar songs - your in an indie band

Sorry, indie is dead as an alternative music. It's all pop now, and it lost credibility years ago.
Any bands pursuing it as a creative outlet are just wasting their time. Music has moved on, and the alternative scene is elsewhere.
Cribs, Joe Lean, Holloways, yada yada yada. Who really cares
