  • Great story. It's completely ridiculous they couldn't just consider letting you tell your students the truth, that Juan is not just a Chinese name, and that people can learn English even when it's not the primary language of their homeland. DUH!

  • thanks, they did it because that´s part of the EFL ESL bizz ... it is everywhere..also in Peru if you look whitey ..kinda european, caucasian, gringo look ...you can easily get a job as a foreign language teacher ... I saw how in my own country really good EFL teachers are discriminated just because of the color of their skin ...

  • in my case I was hired because of my 15-20 years rich experience in EFL-ESL classrooms and cause I am a professor... I look european..a bit gringo...but still my name was a problem and also my homeland...

  • in those times I was the only one in my entire company with a background in foreign language education and also the only latino...working undercovered as a "gringo" ;0))) .. the rest of my friends were from UK,USA,Auzzieland,New Zealand and Ireland..anyway I had a good time and I was respected...but I was missing my latino roots
