Thanks for sharing historical footage of a couple of Dinosaur chicks newly hatched. We now know that one grew wizzard-like and took to legendary heights, immortalized by the lightning (verse) emanating from his eyes and mind, and thunder (music) in his heart.
I played in 1975,with Marc a few gigs.It was in a garage,a couple of days before he started T REX again. It were acoustic gigs like the one you see in the clip.Ringo Starr visited us and his crew filmed it.I forgot the location. Can anyone give me a tip,or a hint, like it might have been there? Many thanks, friends of Marc Bolan.
look at the audience. they're madly in love. none of them are talking, no cluttered chatter. no text messaging. they're listening to the music. they're listening. something this generation doesn't do. no chances. no shared heart beats, this generation uses technology to decide whether or not they're bored, they can't even think for themselves anymore, they ask their phone in the midst of a golden predicament "am i bored"
According to Tony Visconti's own Auto-Biography, he first met Marc Bolan and Steve Took (bongo's) when they played at the UFO club, not Middle Earth..?
According to Tony Visconti's own Auto-Biography, he first met Marc Bolan and Steve Took (bongo's) when they played at the UFO club, not Middle Earth..?
My best friend was Marc's original roadie and stayed with him until he became dangerously ill the same week Marc died. He's told me so many brilliant stories of their touring and relationship.
He's been asked repeatedly to write a book, but says he loved Marc like a son and could never break his confidences. (He's credited on a couple of Marc's albums.
He's Mick O'Halloran, he worked with P P Arnold, The Love Affair and many other great bands. He's like a brother to me, a man with very high ideals and a well of good advice and support. He's met all the true greats, Bob Marley, Roy Orbison, Robert Plant and Ringo. Thanks for the comment!
Was that "Na-na--na-na-na" or "La-na--da-da-da"? Also, do you know if Bolan was being complimentary referring to Sara as "crazy," or does he mean that she was crazy? Who was Sara?
He's playing It was recorded and filmed absolutely live. The problem here seems the pic is horribly out of sync. View the real one which is included on the 'BTB' dvd as a bonus.
i so wish i could have been there to see marc and steve took live ,this is fantastic, i have followed marc right from the tyrannosaurus rex days ,and have loved ALL his work ever since, love bobby xx
And like me...Escuche Tyrannosaurus Rex en los 60s...Sorprendente. Siendo fanatico de The Beatles, no puedo dejar de reconocer el talento incipiente de Bolan en medio de la Beatlemania.
What a wonderfully original duo Bolan and Took were. There is an absolute magical quality to both of them and nothing since them has really seemed quite so unique...
If anyone has tabs or sheet music for Tyrannosaurus Rex I'd appreciate a message. I have some for Unicorn but only a small few.
Very awesome footage. Thankyou for posting - always wanted to see his pre-T.Rex vocals in action.
I think I was actually at this concert. As far as I can remember it was either 1967/68 on the Isle of Wight. The acts were Jefferson Airplane, Pretty Things, The Move, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Fairport Convention, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Orange Bicycle and the Pink Fairies. The gig was all night in a field and cost £1.50. I still have the ticket!
I saw them performing, Marc wore something like grey-brown blanket over his shoulders and he sang with a very quiant and soft voice, my friend and I took them for two french beatnicks isn't that just too sad, we left....now I just want to kill myself why was I so stupid!!!!!!??
Is there anyone who could publish the tab for this and than just post the link here? I would so much appreciate it, because the John's Children version is kind of lame and the tab for this one is nowhere to be found...
Wow this is a real rare piece! I´ve seen a short clip of this two years ago and thought this is all what´s left of the appearance. Thanks for posting.
Wonderful footage that reminds me of my misspent youth in Powis Square. I met Steve and he used to come over to chill in the last few months of his life. He was still full of plans for the future and even offered me and my flatmate Bill a gig with him. We played bass and guitar. Never less than entertaining and someone who for me sums up an entire era. Thank you for the upload.
Marc used to be in a group called John's Children and his hair was even closer cut than that. on Here it was starting to grow out as we remember and love it...
Fantastic. Marc really was at his best before he made it into the hit parade (though I don't think "Sarah Crazy Child is one of their strongest early numbers) ... he doesn't look himself with short hair!
I like the aura of footage -- one-camera take from some kind of dark cellar, handful of people watching musically weak hippie duo strumming. But Peel hyped them. And the moment the Bolab broke through, the friendship was gone instantly.
Back when people used to smoke, they created songs on things called guitars, very gentle songs indeed. Because of the smoke. You see, it used to cling to things as it mingled around thier face and in thier hair. It made magical sounds when the light hit it which made corkscrew curls in it. I like the light and this video.
absolute love in my <3 for marc

He looked like a better-looking version of Bob Dylan with short hair.
Hard to believe that he was around my age in this performance. This is an amazing piece of history, thank God this footage isn't lost.
