I was going to try my paint filly in a bitless bridle because she was trained by a cowboy (who I'm assuming used a twisted wire bit) and she was absolutely terrified of the bit, but I actually found a rubber straight bar bit that was apple flavoured! Which I thought was a really nice invention, and she couldn't be happier (I think she likes playing with it really). A bitless bridle was my next step if that didn't work though, and Argo looks quite happy with your decision =)
Sure you can! People get hung up on the notion of 'on the bit' when it really should be 'on the bridle'. You ride with your seat and legs mostly, not your hands (that's just good horsemanship no matter what). Argo is sort of stiff no matter what, but i"ve seen hgh level Dressage Tests done perfectly bitless so give it a go. : )
She behaves 200% better without a bit, it's incredible. I whave WAY more control in her BB than in any bit. We only do low level dressage so not much collection is required of us yet. I have great confidence that she will collect just fine when the time comes for her to do so. :)
Sorry for the delay in response, life's been insane lately. Happy riding! :D
Good for you for going Bitless! I use Dr. Cooks bridles on all of my personal and lesson horses. Your Morgan reminds me a bit of one of my student's horse....an Arab. I think Morgans and Arabs have a bit in common concerning their sensitivities and high heads! Have you made very sure that your saddle fits her absolutely? She acts a bit like something is troubling her (perhaps it's just show jitters?). Good job!
Great job, indeed a happy horse!! I use the same bridle and am thrilled to see that this bridle is accepted at competitions in the UK! Unfortunatley here in Germany they don't, at least not in dressage tests, weird huh? My horse is sooo much happier without a bit and although I would like to start competing next year, but if that means I have to hang a bit in his mouth, I'll decline. :)
I'm not sure abut the UK since I'm in Canada, but they are not allowed in competition here. This was a Fun Show, and I had to jump through about forty hops before being allowed to compete. I can't figure out why they're so scared of us bitless folks. IMO Dressage is about harmony...not whether or not your horse has a piece of metal in his mouth. ::shrug::
lol, i ride dressage her in can too, i got these spray on body sparkles for my horse and they wont allow them!! :( god, dressage can be so plain :p its nice to see some dressage riders ride bitless! i think they should allow it in showes...maybe if you got the vet to sign something saying she cannot have a bit in her mouth due to something :P
Nice one - well done! I ride bitless too and have just done my first bitless walk and trot test via Interdressage - check them out - nice way to compete online and very positive with their comments!!
Great!! There are non UK people who compete and they cater for all levels, so hope you give it a go and the rosettes are fab!! By the way forgot to say your girl is beautiful :

can you get a horse to bend its neck and not hollow out his back with a bitless bride?
I thinking about trying a bitless bride with my dressage horse

Yes my saddle fits her fine, she is just a very opinionated mare. LOL A true character. :D
I'm glad to see so many Dr Cooks BB users! Cool!
