The Euphoria album came out in 1999. But the late 90s were rough on bands trying to find their way out of the endless cycle of that era. So many new styles of music were on the charts and on the radio back then. The late 90s were the identity crises era for many bands hanging over from the 80s. Metallica, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Poison, Warrant, etc. I really think if DL had released Euphoria in 2005 or after, it would have faired better. It's my favorite album, and this is my favorite DL song.
Some of these comments are UTTER rubbish! Mutt Lange is a genius and everything he touches becomes a hit - FACT! Slang was a let down and believe me no one knows better than me...Thank God Alexander and his band 'EUTOPIA' keep the true spirit of hard rock living!!
This is a great song. It is a shame Mutt Lange who did lend a hand on the Euphoria album ruined the Leppard version. Mutt Lange needs to stay away from Leppard. They released their best work without him. The Slang album is the best album Lep have done. Possibly the most underrated album ever.
I would have to def agree with you slang was the best album lep had done since high an dry. an with the new line up it has been the best album by far. an it is very under rated. there were so many songs on that cd that could have been a single. they just never pushed the CD enough.
Mutt Lange contributed on that album as a song writer on two songs, he wasn't the porducer, Euphoria album is the result of what they learned with mutt on Hysteria-pyromania albums where mutt colaborated as a producer and song writer, Euphoria is a good album very influenced by hysteria adrenalize days, i Love slang album and the rest of them.
@VRfan73 I can't agree with everything you say here, Mutt Lange did a lot of good work with Def Leppard, and I would love to see Mutt take charge of another Def Leppard album. But Slang as you say is massively under-rated and is possibly my favourite Def Leppard album.
yes i have the clock version. belive it or not its pretty much the same. This is identical to the leppard version it just doesnt have the backing instruments.
I find it different from Lep. The guitars are much more amped in the Lep version, to be expected. Clock has PJ playing the piano--it's softer. And I am totally biased, but I heard Lep's first, then Clock's and thought--*that* is how it's supposed to be!
Viv is actually a very humble guy, people just don't get his sense of humor but that is ok cause he is hot, he can sing and he can really shred on the guitar. Did I mention he was hot? He is just a nice guy who likes to have fun. So people need to really stop taking him and the things he says so seriously.
Thanks for this. This is a great song and its cool to hear it straight from the songwriter. The Def Leppard version features some of the bands most incredible harmonies and it remains my favorite version of this track. Vivian was great in this performance though.
Great song. Its on the Euphoria album. So he must of made a little money from it if he wrote it lol. I actually think he sounds a little bit like Bryan Adams.
Def leppard in general after the slang album sounds like bryan adams. just bout everything off the euphoria an x album could have been done by bryan adams. when love and hate collide. two steps behind an miss u in a heart beat are all very bryan adamsish. ever since they mellowed out joe has had that style of dirty singing voice like bryan adams.
is it just me or does it annoy anyone else the fact that vivan goes on about earning no money??? It's not the first time i have heard him go on about it.... He earns tons more than the average fan gets to tour the world wine and dine with famous people. isn't tha enough??
If he isn't making any money from his songs he should write some better songs, simple as.
i like him as a guitarist but i think he just a bit stuck up.
Of course the guy has plenty of money, he is doing what so many other people have done before him. Say they make no money from a song before performing it themselves. If the song isnt well recieved it make it look like there is a good reason for not making money from it. If its is well recieved then they look like an unrecognised genius!! Stevie nicks has done it, Richard thompson, Ritchie Sambora all have used this trick........
What a great song, it should have been a single!
