seles was scarred mentally after this.she would lose to players she used to dominate before the stabbing.when she played arantxa sanchez in the french open after the stabbing she lost the 1st set 7-6 and won the 2nd set 6-0.she showed glimpses of how she could dominate these players but wouldnt stay with it mentally.she also did this to graf after the stabbing losing the 1st 7-6 and then winning the second set 6-0 she also made many errors which she never used to do.

i remember when i was a kid i got knocked down by a car, for months after it i was scared to death of red cars. even a few years ago i was in a car accident since then i havent driven, mental scars dont heal quickly, mary carillo should just keep her mouth shut

Poor Seles. She had such pure love for the game of tennis and this crazy person does this senseless thing to her. She deserved better but she's a beautiful person and she did come back and in my book successfully. Not number 1 but a Top 5 player for several years. I think people have always been jealous of her.

Fuck Mary Carillo.How dare she say this about an 18 yr old girl who had just gone through a tramatic experience and not to mention this is the first time happening in any sport.Monica is a sweet down to earth woman and im sure if she could get over the phsycological damage from the stabbing she would have been back alot sooner.Monica loved playing tennis and i and all of Monica's fans know that it killed her everyday she was away from the court.She didnt milk anything Mary.We love u Monica!!!

Keep in mind that steffi grew up privlaged and played at a club.

Monica was self taught, she struck her first tennis ball in a parking lot made of dirt To even become number one and win 8 out of 10 slams played is incredible. I would say that is more natural than the club producted player.

ok now ur talking out of ur ass because graf had an attitude.she slammed her racket against the wall breaking it after losing to monica in berlin.and after her match against martina in 87 at the us open she was clearly upset and martina tried to comfort her but graf had an attitudfe so martina just shrugged.so ur full of shit that graf didnt have an attitude.plus u can hear her cursing during the 93 australian open final cursing in german.yelling out.

Never realized that Mary Carillo had made that remark about Ms. Seles. How rude, low, base, crass and insensitive. I can barely stand to hear her voice when she commentates, and now I realize why. It sounds to me as if Mary was jealous of Monica, nothing else. So, Monica had interests outside of tennis, she was a teen at the time, it would be normal. What a shame that this happened to her, I still think she was one of the best female players ever. Peace...

Oh, wow. I cannot believe Mary Carillo said that about Monica. Who is Mary Carillo to say that Monica wasn't handling the situation properly? What the hell does she know about it? No one else can ever know what Monica went through and cannot say what she should or should not have felt or done. No one else's opinions matter and the fact that Carillo was so insensitive towards that is appalling. I'm disgusted by that. Carillo sure milked it, too: the chance to make a stink and get attention.

i think seles was just scared to go back on the court cause that guy that stabbed her was never sent to prison,and they werent able to stop him from stabbing her on the court so whose to say he wouldnt try again,so i dont blame her for not wanting to go back on the court again for a long time.

Oh, I completely agree. And I can't blame her for being fearful. That's why I'm so outraged by Carillo's comments. Anyone with an ounce of sympathy could understand what she must have been going through, which just makes Carillo's remarks that much more insensitive.

Graff probably never felt remorse about this event being happy that she could get back nr 1 and some asshole actually helped her . I remember that Graff never contacted Monica about how she was feeling and all which only sustain my opinion about Graff being a money heartless bitch
