  • Its tough switching to and from it im finding. its also really tough to get steady and even strikes, the best result ive gotten so far, after breaking it down really really slow to feel it, was from slowing it down not too slow but down to 130 to 160 bpm which forces your hand to feel the rythym of the second strike when lifting it.

  • u look tired lol

  • dure jared you look awsome

  • just wondering, how do you make it so people wouldnt be able to hear the rim when you're doing the one handed roll? cause mine sounds pretty loud and to me it would feel like the people around me would be able to hear the shaft of the stick hitting the rim. any tips? thank you c:

  • you look so tired, you need some more sleep

  • @LEFT4BASS lol i scrolled down and read this comment the exact time he says it in the video

  • Thank you I have been waiting for this lesson ;D

  • do the other video!

  • aren't those cobus' pedals?

  • Jared, how long should this take to get right?

  • 3:30

    The ladies must love you

  • FOLLOW UP PLEASE!! :D

  • I play both drum set and Marching snare, and I am wondering why you don't do the one handed roll used for marching snare: using the back fingers to bounce the stick back down continually...?

  • does it not wreck your leg?

  • how do you count 16 notes/?

  • @pugs321

    1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a

with sixteenth notes, in common time, each downbeat gets 4 even beats. so the first count is "1", he second is "e", the third is "and" (+), and the last is "a." then it goes to the next downbeat.....that is the simplest way i can put it

  • @wannabedrummerlol and what about 32nd notes?

  • I like your new haircut )

  • Are those Pro-Mark Millennium 2 5A's?

  • 3:40 --> we're ready to take off

  • kind jojo mayerish. Dug and liked. Thanks jared and DC

  • Awesome! what a nifty and fairly easy trick that makes one sound like a pro!

  • what size hi hat is that?

  • their called gravity blasts

  • Great video, what head are you using on the snare drum?

  • Cool. Thanks.

  • Good morning Jared, nicely done video :-)

  • i saw you switched to a dw 900 double bass pedal. how is it???

  • @mcrfreako1011 They're working quite well. I'm always switching it up...I have 4 different double pedals.

  • @drumlessonscom wow really? what are the other ones?

  • LIKE!!! WE WANT FOLLOW UP LESSONS!!!

  • @abalaja2010

    Indeed we do...

  • You really look like zombie.. lol

  • Tim Hortons coffee? yeah budday!

  • @heyimtiffany You know it!

  • i'm lovin the pedals! ;)

  • What can i do about the fact that i hear it when my stick touches the rim? i did it a few times that my stick hitted the head and then like mutes the rim click sound..

  • @BrightenHite Usually that sound is masked by the sound of the snare drum. Keep working on it and eventually it'll cancel out the rim sound.

  • Follow up video please! : D

  • you always wear the best tshirts!!! :D

  • When I play Hush by Deep Purple with my band, I always open the song with a one handed roll. Like yesterday, at a gig. The crowd will love you, trust me.

  • I´ve waited this so long. Thank you!

  • Is that a gravity blast ?

  • It doesn´t work on a 3 zone e-pad =( Yamaha TP65S

  • hey isn't that the [unchanged] set- up Cobus used?

  • @Clancedrums No, it's very different. All Paiste cymbals, different tom sizes etc.

  • that is fucked

  • yeah do a video on applications

  • For Jarred It is called a Falkrum point instead of a fulcrum point!

  • Is it necessary for my snare to be parallel to the floor? Or can I make it work even if it's a little slanted?

  • @kornfanatic1303 You can make it work if it's slightly slanted.

  • Masturbation is an effective supplement exercise to improve your one-handed roll technique.

  • 1:18 i saw myself in the meirrrr

  • Thats awsome cant wait to take it to my kit

  • Hehehe the FALKrum point... :D

  • it would be very cool if all your videos have this «50% speed» part

  • Thanks for posting this. Really look forward to more applications followup video.

  • Yes! Do a follow up video please!!!

  • Thanks for this lesson, I'll try this today! :D

  • cheack out johnny rabb if you liked this lesson

  • good teaching .. thank you .. continue doing it ...

  • I survived the rapture? More like I survived the haircut.

  • Would love a followup video, Jared! Quick question though- will practicing this technique at slower tempos be a good idea or bad? Thanks.

  • @MightymanofGod21 It's very hard to practice slowly. It's not something you use to play slowly so I only practice it at faster tempos.

  • Followup!

  • I would like to see a followup video showing one handed roll implementation in the context of jungle/ drum'bass. Who's with me?! :D

  • Sweet! I've never actually seen someone effectively use that in a beat.

  • Give Jared a break, he hasn't had his coffee yet. :P

  • Jared! You're just too awesome!

  • RESPONDE!!!!

  • Jared, can you make these lessons available for those who only have an electric kit? i understand it varies on the kit and some will be more easily transferable than others, but it'll be much easier for those with noise restrictions.

    thanks

    Alex.

  • @a7xgreen The technique can be played on electric kits if the pads are big enough.

  • how early was it? :D

  • @0gulaaa0 8:30 am

  • i waited for this so long!!!

  • Swedish metalheads call this gravity blast, Jojo Mayer calls is on handed roll or free hand technique :P

  • Awesome jared im gonna learn this. Please follow up mate :)

  • thanks every other on youtube says you are only using your full arm...

  • It's like the swedish gravity blast :)

  • @BalleBaest it IS the swedish gravity blast..

  • Busted: timmies cup hiding on music stand

  • i thought its called the gravity blast?

  • @xICHIGOxiii called both! :)

  • Great job Jared, as always gonna take this to my kit :D

  • follow up video please :)

  • Isn't this also called the "Gravity roll"? And offcourse I want a follow up video! That was awsome :D

  • Please do the follow-up video!!!

  • when you hit the snare first time (first note) does it have to come with the rim hit? I mean snare and rim hit at the same time right? then you pull stick up and it makes second stroke. Is that right? Sorry about my english,i hope you understood.

  • it's just like a gravity blast ;-)

  • You look tired Jared! You really need some sleep

  • I think it would be a good idea to show more ways to apply this technique Jared!

  • So a question, is there somekind of a fulcrum we need to first get the feel of before actually doing the roll? Cause for me, I don't have very fast hands and I can't go at such crazy speed! (Ur hands are like a vibrator......)

  • Yeah! I'm sure you have some advanced apps for this stuff! Please show us

  • U went bald!! How cool!! But u know, I still like the way u had ur blonde hair!!!

  • What sticks are you using Jared?

  • @iLoveAltNation he is using some sort of pro mark sticks

  • @BeastlyMusician Well I could tell that, I just wanted to know specific. ;)

  • press 2 to hear mario

  • wouldn't it be safer to have roughly the same grip, but with the ring and pinky on the outside of the stick?

  • @TheHikoriOne That doesn't really work well for me but you can test different grips out and see what works best for you.

  • Yes! make a follow up vid, these little application lessons are really cool and help out my drumming a lot! thanks jared.

  • Awesome, thanks Jared!

  • Good job Jared. I would like to see more of your applications of this. :)

  • HAAAAIIIIRRRR CUUUUUUT"

  • Nice sounding snare! *goes off to practice*

  • i think it might need to be said, start slow.

  • Thank you, I didnt think youd actually do this since theres bunch of lessons online on gravity blasts already..but i think you gave a really good solid lesson. Ill take to my kit first thing in the morning. Thanks again Jared!

  • 7:30 how in the world?

  • Awesome vid man, I've been trying to figure out how to do this by myself, but this really helped. I don't play a genre that would typically use this, such as heavy metal, death metal, metalcore, etc., but it's really cool for effects and crowd pleasing. I'd love too see what other ways your applying this.

  • BEAST!

  • i also survived the rapture!!

  • How are the DW 9000's right there compared to your usual Speed Cobra's?

  • I swear you change pedals monthly! :D.

    Mad lesson though :P

  • TIM HORTONS BABY

  • Thanks!!!!!!!

  • haha shaved head

  • Where did your speed cobras go?

  • @oa172 I still have them, just testing out the DW 9000's.

  • I don't see when I would ever use this.

  • @tmosley444 It's not for everyone...

  • I used to do this with my right hand. It kinda came naturally, but I could never master it with the left. Hopefully I will now that I've seen you break it down. Also, my right hand technique uses more arm and less writs than you do, so that might also be something to improve. Thanks for the video

  • The DW is Back!!!!!

  • Hey jared could we possibly skype?

  • This helped so much! Thank you guys!

  • finally lol i saw this when you played with cobus and it was super cool

  • I've gotten this down with my left hand but not my right.
