Probably the only completely non-canon RE game is Resident Evil: Gaiden for the Game Boy color, contrary to what some of the more idiotic die-hard Resident Evil fans would have you believe.
Just because you aren't killing zombies doesn't mean it's a different story. The plot has just advanced, like all plots should.
