Carmine is awesome! He got very personally groove and his sense of rhytm is amazing. His drumming drives a lot. I like him more then Bonham, but Paicey is the best!
Carmine and Bobby Caldwell (who doesnt get brought up as much as he should when discussing great drummers) are probably my biggest influences in drumming.
Parchment Farm. Cactus. Good ole Carmines' still got it. What is he? about 65? I saw the Fudge when I was 17. He would probably be 5 years older than me making him 22. That sounds about right eh? He has a phenomenal Resume. It's real nice to see him healthy and in good shape; both physically and mentally, and he can still kick out the jams.
Happy Birthday Carmine Appice ! I love you , as i taught from your drum book Realistic Rock to many people !!! I had the pleasure of meeting you at a drumshow in wisconsin years ago . thundering drums drum solo competition was going on . Cheers Mate ! I play Ringo Starr in BritBeat beatles tribute band from chicago illinois .
Met him at a KISS convention in NJ about a dozen years ago. Not my favorite drummer, but was certainly a very nice guy. He talked to me about a good 20 minutes about most eveything OTHER than drums, oddly enough.
I agree this isn't the most interesting solo but I guess I have a soft spot for the guy because his was the first drum instruction book I used when I took lessons.
Best solos I've heard are Steve Smith's on 'La Do Da' from "Captured" and Peart's 'YYZ' solo from "Exit Stage Left'.
I really like the 1st 45 seconds of this solo, it sounds great, not to crazy about the rest of it but that's just me. I hear a little John Bonham in there which sounds cool. I thought after he speeded up the tempo he would come back to how he started the jam. Anyway, I like this guy as a drummer and I own his book and DVD's.
i fyou see mor closely he actually ends up hold in teh stick in his right hand in between his middle and first finger he even dehe even describes it in one video
if you break it down its the same groupings of notes and phrases played over and over. pretty good but not jaw dropping. no disrespect to this guy though.
He may not impress you, but he's out-distanced every one of his peers. He's been around since 1967 and people still flock to hear him at concerts & clinics. His contemporaries-Bonham, Moon, Mitchell, Baker, etc. are either dead or burnt to a crisp.
@fibes55 - Carmine's perhaps the best AMERICAN drummer in a long time but he still has few contemporaries around - Mr. Ian Paice would probably come to mind, and there are probably others...
@Purplemania Deep Purple Mark ll lineup has always been my favourite band. Steve Morse is fantastic but he ain't Ritchie..and Don Airey ain't no Jon Lord. I loved the way he
played the 'Beast'; and Ritchie with his hyper aggressive playing they made a great band.
Carmine has always been one of my favourite drummers; although I enjoy Paicey a lot.
@Starpass Nobody plays drums on ballads (!!!) like Ian Paice. When I listen to Cozy Powell, Vinnie Appice, Eric Singer or many others, they allways sound pale and plate doing ballads. Carmine is also strong, just listen to Season Of The Witch - Great feeling!
@beggarhipnotized Hang on a sec while I take one of my Dammitol pills. Purple has always and still is my favourite band and Paicey definitely is one that I mentioned on a previous comment, but the thread Is about Carmine. I was just giving the man his due.
Carmine played plenty of Ballads when he was with Rod the Mod Stewart, and I enjoyed the Carmines drumming immensely. I really don't see much point in saying who is better while playing Ballads. Both men are fine drummers.
how did he obtain that effect in 2:40 ? I Knew that some drummers, e.g. ian paice, managed to add a wah-wah guitar effect to the snare drum...is it possible?
not really but ok
there are new school drummers that play rock just as well you know

Carmine graduated from the same H.H. as I did...some sic years earlier.
I met him in California approximately six or seven years ago touring with the Fudge. Nice chap.
By the way...the late Cozy Powell smokes Carmine.

The sound that Carmine, Vinny, and John Bonham get on their bass drums makes me want to tune my 22" bass drum higher than usual to try the sound out.

@MrGiordy92 I think it's more similiar to a phaser effect which, kinda, is similar to if you just rock a wah wah back and for at a certain speed.

@Supercow909 So; I'm guessing those Dudes from Godsmack are your kinda drummers.
I seriously hope you didn't vote thumbs down on Carmine's effort. If you knew the mans history you would be singing a different tune. j/k
