My sister took me to a double feature of these when I was 12 or 13. Flesh was in 3D. Around that time she also took me to Pink Flamingos, City of Women, 7 Beauties, Freaks and a bunch of other crazy movies. No wonder I end up the way I am.
@LastBankJob You have one cool sister. Unfortunately we don't live in those days anymore, but I educate my younger sibling in these things as much as I can.
i saw these movies in the 70's and i was stoked...there was nothing like that then for ordinary people, saw it at the drive in.. still can remember it,,especially joe.
The only thing Warhol provided was the money & Joe Delasandro's notoriety. Morrissey's films all the way. Just like 'Flash' & 'trash', Morrisssey was a talented film maker...any statements concerning the feel of these films or anything else related to them is all Morrissey. Great films BTW hilarious & completely original...with some absolutely georgous set pieces...real classy productions...look for Polanski in the tavern scene from 'Flash for Dracula' the 'Can U do what I do' scene.
When I watched this film, I felt bad for Dracula for he just wanted a wife and some blood of a virgin that he never got, and when he finally got the girl he was killed along with her. In this film Dracula was neither bad nor good.
I totally agree with you. I think Dracula was a victim here. He just wanted a wife instead the man whore chopped him up (funniest Dracula death scene ever IMO). There are some pretty good artistic shots in this (vomiting the blood, can't turn away if you try) But I think the director's main point is that times are changing, virginity is overrated and the nobility (Dracula) no longer have a place in modern society. You kinda get the feeling that Warhol was a communist, was he?
I have no Idea if he was or not but I totally agree with you 100% on virginity being so overrated. It's funny normally in horror films the non virgins always dies and the virgin lives it's like telling the teenagers not to have sex at a young age or you will die a horrific death if your not careful, I think the Catholic church is behind that LOL I don't know if they are but it would be funny if they were because horror films are mostly violent and they are against that =D Thou shall not kill LOL
A rule for people in horror films: Don't have SEX! Do IT you die. Its weird that a film made in the 70s is that progressive in its thinking but can still be the antithesis of the modern movie. Not only is virginity seen as outdated but losing it actually became the salvation for a character of this film. I think that after the 70s society became more aware of the dangers of sex, STDs became more of a prevalent problem and the film industry turn them into the monsters that killed teenagers.
I mean in horror films like if you are a virgin you are pure and a good girl but if you display any sexual desires you are automatically the one who is going to be killed. Some times virgins are not pure and angelic which is always shown in films of the past. why do virgins always have to be daddy's little girl in horror films? And one thing I hate is when they portray women as weak little things that are in need of a man to save them, always weak and defenseless in some films that I see.
because no one has stepped up to the plate and make a girl stronger than the male in the movies. Plus some guys get off on that stuff. Where they love to help out a damsel in distress. And plus some people love seeing the bitchy, overly sexed up female get killed. And plus some people love to see the good girl win the fight and survive. Not the girl who had sex in the back seat of the car with boyfriend Billy because no one wants the dirty girl to live. That's what sells in the world of movies.
The tough girl who is not the good girl type and who would be the person who can fend for her self and would only need the guy to help if I ask for it. And if people think of me as the slut in the movie that's what they think and I would prove other wise. No girl is too weak. I would not be the one who is daddy's little angle because in human nature people are not perfect and the virgin good girl can be deflowered. Sometimes it's a facade. What girl would you be in the horror movie?
I couldn't say exactly what type of girl I'd be in a horror movie because I'd need a sex change and a lot of make up. But if I was a guy in a horror film, I'd probably the one crazy about the tough girl.
You're right about one thing: virginity is overrated. However, a continuous striving for purity, virgin or not, is the most important thing.
Sorry about that some times it's hard to tell what race you are by the names people make up. Good we will make a perfect team, kicking ass when the killer comes around. Hey the tough girl may not be pure and might die in the end but at least she died trying to defend herself from the killer. Have a nice night =)

Hey the Tough girl may not be pure and might end up dying in the end. But at least she died trying to defend her self and not let the killer just kill her. At least she would die knowing that she tried her best in saving her life and others.
Nice double bill. Did catch Flesh for..., some years ago on the big screen. Amusing, if not extremely entertaining. Blood for Dracula is more enjoyable I hear. The trailer was very good. Thanks for posting!
Yes at a rep cinema. And might see it again this month. Well the 3D effects have their moments like the guts hanging toward the camera or when a character is speared and its pointing outward. But even though it was trying for laughs I did find the film that funny, a bit dull, its rather slow moving. Maybe it'll like it more next time. And I will see Blood for Dracula I heard the director did a better job on that one.
Does anyone know what happened to Arno? Such a great thick accent.

Funny how so many art house types fall over themselves, when this was nothing but grind-house fodder with Warhol's name across it.

@cousincreep It was stylish grind-house fodder.

I discoverd these late at night on netflix. Watched one after the other and then dawn arrived. The apotheosis of camp, in my opinion.

What music is in the Flesh For Frankenstein trailer? It's not on the soundtrack by Claudio Gizzi.

Virginity in what context? Before marriage? Lifelong? Why?

That's Hollywood for ya. But if those stereotypes are simply not true, how can it be that they are constantly re-occurring themes throughout film?
