as a theologian::1in islam a veil is mandatory, however, this is only if the government is a muslim govt.,otherwise its by choice. 2 the eyes should not be covered (saudi style veil, not afghani style),3 when in public for e.g on the streets it is mandatory however you must identify yourself by uncovering the face for govt. authorities e.g. police, security, & when having pictures taken for id cards, and uncover face in private/public premises, buildings to avoid discomfort of others ... also

How many kind of Muslims are there? It seems like each country or nationality have a different form of Islam. Isn't that confusing, like in the movie "Not Without My DAughter" Sally Field was severly oppressed if she didn't follow the hajib to the letter. How many kind of Muslims are there? I am curious.
Very interesting....although a couple of the young women that converted to Islam seem to be steeped in an ultraliberal sort of hippie mentality - I think they would get a rude awakening when confronted with traditional beliefs...
muslim women say that wen nuns wear a viel they are seen as modest. well thats because they make sure that they submit themselves entirely to god by not havin any sexual contact, while muslim women wear a viel and end up marrying, losing all her cleaniness and submission to god provin they think havin sexual contact is more important than believin in god and submittin to Him.
i beg to differ. submission to Allah is obeying his commands. i believe that getting married and having sexual contact with your spouse falls in line with His will for us. can't speak for all nuns but some of them claim to be righteous, but are getting pregnant and dumping fetuses under the convent. they are also doing this while wearing a "wedding band" to symbolize their dedication to Christ. *smile* stop being so judgemental when you don't know what your talking about.
if women are covered, men should also be covered like them. religions are sexist. men can also get lustful looks and they can also be raped by the opposite gender. what about the lack of vitamin D? if there would be god, he would say not to cover your body cause then you wont get vitamin D from being exposed on the sun. pills are crap, they dont help. you must be on the sun to get the vitamin D. I feel really sad when they have to hide their body, even when being on the beach in middle east.
actually in islam men have a sort of hijab also, they cover from belly button to knees. I think you can still benifit from vitamins from the sun with a headscarf too because your face and hands are exposed to it right? lol. plus when you eat vegatables you get the vitamins that THEY collect from the sun.
i agree with u..but i am sure in that countries they are washing women's brain..so they have not choise in doin noting...im sick of that ..im sick to see it and to talk cos i m ashame of human actions :S this is more than a war this is a silent war....
from an Orthodox Christian: amen. you cannot be a muslim or a christian according to "how I understand it." there is the one true faith, and there is the tradition of the Church (in my case, or the Koran in your case), and either you submit or you do not.
This video showed next to nothing about the hijab. The majority shown lack basic knowledge about the wisdom behind the piety involved with covering. One even has a BF--forbidden in Islam! These people need to study.
So if the women don't mind wearing the veil, what's the beef? In the bible Chorinthians 12 it says women should wear a veil also... So is Christianity backwards also...Or are they just sinners since they don't follow the Bible?
How could you follow a religion that is so backwards that gives no value or even know or understand what human rights are. If I was Muslim i would disagree to Islam and avoid it. But Im not Muslim so I don't know what is it like? I am Catholic and I dont know why people support the church. The Pope? what about him? killings, tortures and more is what THEY WERE and TODAY what do they do?
If you're a woman, you can dress to be invisible. All you have to do is dress in bulky sweats, keep your hair unkepmt, dirty and stinking of being unwashed, and i guantee you that you will be invisible.
Now at least the veiled women look dressed up, fashionable and lovely. They look neat and clean.
Wearing a veil is seductive as one young girl mentioned, because you can move about "freely" and not be judged or ogled by guys; that must feel strangely liberating. However, they don't realize they're literally putting on another kind of prison, as it separates them from other people (as the same young woman mentioned a child couldn't see her smile at her. That's pretty sad...).
Veil and Hijab has been exploited for political reasons. Iran had compulsory removal of veil,Shahs forces will snatch and tore veil. Present Day Iran makes it compulsory on women to cover with hijab.
Most often Hijab, veil or head covering goes with cultural back ground. Islam teaches for piety and modesty in women dressing, Hijab and veil is left optional to individual traditions. There is no compulsory Hijab / veil in teaching.
Since this is a documentary project, the quest for bringing out the truth is an ethical guideline that will maintain my objective approach in telling the story. Thanks for commenting and I look forward to any feedback as I'm finalizing this.
I am Muslim and I cover, but I don't think the Saudi police should force anyone to cover because that beats the purpose: if you're doing it by force and not in the name of God, then you're doing it for nothing...
some parents they force their daughters to wear it not because their muslims but because it makes them look good in front of their friends. and no offence but most of these men come from an arabic country
Also, when you look at the world today, there is no such thing as a Muslim country; no country is even close to being that well organized :))
countries like Saudi Arabia go too far with their rules, but on the other hand, you have "Muslim countries" like Turkey where they ban wearing the headscarf to make the country a more "secular" one... Then you have countries like the U.S. that give you all the freedom you need to practice your religion BUT the general public treats you badly...
I don't find the story about Saudi's letting girls burn for not covering very believable, BUT that's not really the issue. You cannot blame the religion of Islam for such actions. Hijab, covering NOT just your hair but the rest of your body in a modest way, IS mandatory and stated in the Quran. Of course people should not be forced by other people to cover if they don't want to; it is between the person and Allah. BUT it IS mandatory...
To say that hijab is to wear a veil to cover the hair is INCORRECT, hijab is modesty in dress and in behavior. Not just over the head, but also clothing that does not reveal the shape of the body in public. If you are a Muslim woman and you say that you choose not to observe the hijab then you what you are saying is that you choose to disobey your LORD We lose the essence of Islam when we make statements like this because to be a Muslim is to willingly submit to the will of God
it does'nt confuse me,i think a lot of western women wear it as a turn-on,they like to be 'mysterious'it is another old bullshit religious rule that some twat 5000 yrs ago decided on a whim
Alhamdulillah! This is a very good video if anyone is interested in some more information about this society and hijab please visit this video>>>> Muslim women are Respected, Non muslim women Disrespected. This is a must see video were you will see how this society had blinded some women to the point were they are being disrespected right in front of their eyes and they still say that, those comments are not about them. Really a Must see Video!
"Firefighters told the Saudi press that morality police forced girls to stay inside the burning building because they were not wearing the head scarves and black cloaks known as abayas that women must wear in public in that kingdom. One Saudi paper said the morality police stopped men who tried to help the girls escape the building, saying, "It is sinful to approach them."
Fifteen schoolgirls are burned to death Friday, 15 March, 2002
If this story is true, then its clearly a case of lack of wisdom. Islam allows if out of necessity, to break some of the normal rules. For example if you were starving and no other food except pork was available, you could the eat the pork to stay alive -Quran 5:3. Thus to stay alive from the fire it was allowed and common sense for the girls to come out the burning building uncovered to stay alive. Exagerated propaganda proves nothing!
I am with you. How many women have to die just because they were wearing the veil incorrectly or not al all? Why should Muslims kill women who don't wear the veil by not saving them from fire in the school? The idea of oppressing women through the veil will not work no matter how much logic they try to DEFEND it. It's OFTEN a sign of oppression (done by social pressure)
Black + White shot of Old Cairo - too long, gets a little dizzying - how about pulling back & transitioning to woman's eye. better shot of cloaked girl.
wearing the veil actually gets more attention, so it takes a special kind of woman to stay focused. blending in would also be wearing jeans and a t-shirt. what about this concept?
show how these woman are taking personal responsibility in their own life by living more God-centered, more spiritual amongst the materialistically-oriented surrounding culture.

Its Ok with me but a full veil is not too cool because they would hard to be identified in a bank robbery..
