It appears to be that in 2008 when registering names of the people who are voting, Fonseka didn't enter his, probably because he never thought he might stay in SL and all this would happen.

Now the government has made a very public announcement on state TV that they are going to arrest all the people who forwarded messages containing 'false' accusations to the government during the election and all the electronic and other media who criticised government during election. A lot of such sites are already blocked and 3 people have already been arrested. Not to mention the disappeared journalist from lanka enews website still missing after 3 days!

MR is a political master manipulator. I know from first hand experience how he manipulates bcoz I have family and friends in politics. Just to give u one example of many, there was a UNP provincial counselor in Matale area. He switched sides to MR. When my UNP contact asked him why he did that, he said very sorry but he is being blackmailed by MR. MR told him if he does not switch over, he will expose a corrupt deal that the UNPer had made and will destroy his political career.

It is not SF's fault that Basil is such a smooth rigger. There were plenty of malpractices before the election. Even the election commissioner couldn't control it. Military officers were being told to support the govt on TV. Rupavahini bombarded the public with pro-MR propaganda. President held 3000-strong dansales for policemen, artistes etc. It's obvious the govt intended to win by hook or crook. SF's protest about rigging should not be mistaken as 'crying'.

In my personal view, this is not a personality fight between MR and SF. I see it as a fight between MR on one side, and a corrupt-free, righteous, law-abiding, economically well managed Sri Lanka on the other side. Would you at least agree that MR has severe shortcomings when it comes to ruling the country? Corruption is so high. The economy is in a mess. Our new best friends now are Burma and Iran (two brutal dictatorships). Everyone is afraid to speak out because of death threats. Etc.

Ok non of the elections were not free n fair. But were they that bad compared to this election. Dude, Gov used their powers to the limit where EC couldn't even control it with the power he was given under the law. Police and Army used to intimidate ppl. What was the report? Fair and free election? Gov listened to EC's orders? Gov agents did not interfere? Election workers were not threatened? PAFFREL said it is deeply concerned with the frustrations expressed by the Election Commissioner that government officials did not comply with many of his directives.
