  • Hi, hope you can help me?

I am looking to buy a new grinder that has great consistency, easy to shift between espresso/Frensh Press/Drip and easy to maintain - so.... could this be the grinder?

How would you say the Mahlkönig ProM allround grinder would do in those areas? and are you happy with it?

    Thanx in advance

  • @chrizzzer84

I only use this grinder for espresso. But the dial makes it very easy to change grind settings. As for maintenance, I use those Grindz cleaners once in a while, that's it. After about 10 months of almost daily use, I still enjoy it.

I don't have much experience with many different grinders so I can't compare it. My primary reason for buying this grinder is the quality of grind and size. I'm sure there are better grinders, like the K30, but they are enormous. Best of luck!

  • How do you like your Rancilio Silvia with the installed PID? I'm new to espresso and debating between a heat exchanger like the Rocket Evoluzione and a PID based Izzo Alex Duetto ii. I'm also wondering if your proM is that much better than the Baratza Vario which uses the same ceramic burrs. Tough decisions.

Well, I sold the Silvia. It is a great machine, but I only make milk drinks (capps and lattes) so it was a bit of an underperformer. I upgraded to a Mini Vivaldi, which is a double boiler. Produces fantastic steam! I've never had a HX machine but I know there's the extra step of a "cooling flush" to get the temperature right. I actually had a Duetto on pre-order. If I didn't run into a deal with the Vivaldi, I would have a Duetto on my counter right now! It's a beauty, too!

  • Thanks for a look. It looks "neater" than the k30 which seems to throw coffee everywhere as it grinds. Are u pleased w its ability to fine tune the grind? Thanks for the post.

  • @hbannister

Yes, I'm pleased with the quality of the grind. I can get it fine enough to choke the machine. I'm not great at dialing in grind, so it's a work in progress. It is very fluffy, though. So I have to stop mid-way... lightly tap the portafilter on the counter to settle the coffee a bit... then finish the grinding. It's not messy other than I allow a little overflow.
