I'm not entirely sure what labor union exists in the uniformed grocery sector that offers health insurance. The one I was a member of when I worked at Tops (an Ahold chain in New York) certainly didn't. Yet my current employer, Wegmans, is non union but offers a reasonable health insurance plan for even part time positions.

Critics charge that the public plan will be subsidized by the government. Here they have their facts wrong. Under every plan that's being discussed on Capitol Hill, subsidies go to individuals and families who need them in order to afford healthcare, not to a public plan. Individuals and families use the subsidies to shop for the best care they can find. They're free to choose the public plan, but that's only one option. They could take their subsidy and buy a private plan just as easily.

As an Australian I can to travel to New Zealand, Europe and many other places without travel health insurance as they have reciprocal health arrangements with Australia. However if I travel to USA I pay a higher premium than say throughout Asia. It seems to me me that health should be run mainly by government. Same with defence, education and roads. The Private sector does not always work.

Health Savings Accounts are a complete sham. Take it from someone who had one. If you don't have enough money in your account to pay for your own health care, you're screwed. It's not efficient. It's my personal theory that this is a way that the republicans want to put more money into Wall Street by eventually offering people to make HSA's invested into the stock market, much like 401ks. It does nothing to curb costs.

well on the whole "lies get bigger and with more implications" mine seem to do fairly well. Critics charge that the public plan will be subsidized by the government. Here they have their facts wrong. Under every plan that's being discussed on Capitol Hill, subsidies go to individuals and families who need them in order to afford healthcare, not to a public plan. Individuals and families use the subsidies to shop for the best care they can find. They're free to choose the public plan, but that's only one option. They could take their subsidy and buy a private plan just as easily.

As an Australian I can to travel to New Zealand, Europe and many other places without travel health insurance as they have reciprocal health arrangements with Australia. However if I travel to USA I pay a higher premium than say throughout Asia. It seems to me me that health should be run mainly by government. Same with defence, education and roads. The Private sector does not always work.

Health Savings Accounts are a complete sham. Take it from someone who had one. If you don't have enough money in your account to pay for your own health care, you're screwed. It's not efficient. It's my personal theory that this is a way that the republicans want to put more money into Wall Street by eventually offering people to make HSA's invested into the stock market, much like 401ks. It does nothing to curb costs.

Sam makes some good points, but I really didn't like the way he handled that interview. It reminded me of how Fox doesn't let people respond, only instead of yelling louder, he's all but muting the guy.

well on the whole "lies get bigger and with more implications" mine seem to do fairly well. I've been keeping to a simple story that I passed out on the couch with my bowl of cereal next to me and that's the reason I didn't get back to work after 6 hours straight of manual labor with only 1 15 minute break I think 3 hours into it after working harder than before the previous weeks (that's what my supervisor stated)
In reality I was just pissed off and didn't call in for those 2 hours. lol

The whole point of insurance is that MOST PEOPLE don't need it, and you don't know if you will. What the hell is the point of saving up $100K, and then suddenly dying of a heart attack? Or getting in an accident at 30 and needing $100K of care when I only have $10K saved?
Good idea for things like dental, or optical, but for the high cost medical, you know where the PROBLEM is, they are utterly useless.

I read somewhere a Dr. summed up that idea.

I have come to the conclusion that conservatives, (and many Republicans) simply cannot handle complex issues so they cling to myths, simplistic slogans, and vast oversimplifications of fact, leaving out all important details.
We have Fox news to thank for the dumbing down of the American conservative voter.
