I can't believe I never knew until now that the altered scale is literally a scale made off of altered notes in chords

i cant understand the altered scales... on every minor chord we can play dorian scale; on every dominant we play mixolydian, on major we can play ionian what about lydian scales with sharp fourth?? how we create altered chords? G7alt sounds pretty nasty!
