@celestina742 actually, the producers of glee don't mandate the cast on how the sing, they chose the cast knowing how they sing. They heard them from auditions. They just give them songs to sing, and it's up to them how they do it, as long as they do it well. They're the ones who think of how they interpret it. That's just how Amber Riley sings-- it's an outward voice, that's what she got used to. It's actually painful for the larynx, but she sings like that all the time
