I respectfully object to that second point. I love the harmonies of the earlier gens, and I love this performance. However, MM is full of talented girls who do sing live. Their voices are in many cases steadier and stronger than 1&2 gen appear here, but they don't sound as fresh.
What's expected of MM has changed. Now the challenge is complex choreography rather than a live band. I miss having so many live harmonies but the different iterations of the group are what continue to make it special.
I feel like we are beginning to see more of them pop up recently. "Yowamushi" and "Aki Urara" really remind me of early MM and I'd love to see them performed with a live band. The big difference is really instrumentation. I'm actually really relieved by this because I enjoyed Cover You a lot and I was hoping they'd keep tapping into retro sounds.
