But apparently Marc Cohn's song was slamming Elvis (hence the references to Elvis in lyrics) according to Wiki who falsely states that Elvis robbed Carl Perkins of his glory after he suffered a car accident. The exact opposite is the case. People "get their facts wrong" so often because they have a bias against Elvis. EP's recording hit #20 on Billboard charts, Perkins hit #2, #1 on country, #3 on R&B. EP's was a tribute and it boosted CP's success.
