All my issues that lead to gender identity confusion came from my relationship with my parents, this is just true! Mostly issues with my dad, he was abusive to my mother, mostly out of the picture, and I bonded with my mother and wanted to be like her. If he bonded so strongly with the father, WHERE IS DAD? This harpy is clearly an awful mother and spouse--didn't care about the relationship with the father, can't be an adult with the child and goes along with his confused game.

@Pizuzuzimmer Many times, fathers have a difficult time bonding with their sons BECAUSE they are gay or transgendered. Transgendered people are not that way because of their environment. If that were true, then we would have a great percentage of transgendered people from all of the fatherless homes.

Of course it's not a direct causal relationship, where absent father equals transgender confusion. A complex psychological disturbance like this has numerous factors contributing to its existence. I bet you that if these people all reported honestly, the vast majority of them have some combination of childhood sexual abuse, parental neglect, or other familial abuse in their backgrounds. You're not going to find someone like this coming from a normal, loving 2 parent family.

I bet you that if you ask all people honestly, there would be a lot more sexual abuse and parental neglect know about in general. And you certainly will find transgendered people coming from loving 2 parent families. Also, even if it is true that transgendered people do suffer in childhood, does this mean they should be kicked out of employment for simply being transgendered, as they can be in 45 states?

It means they should be getting counseling about their psychological problem, not being cheered on and permitted to add sex change surgery to their health care plans.
I repeat: there are no people who develop this dysfunction who come from healthy families. Everyone this damaged has been damaged by someone close to him or her. Period.

I am here to tell you that I come from a loving, healthy family. I have wonderful, supportive parents, and I do not see myself as damaged. I'm just a transgender boy who happened to be born in a girl's body. I was born this way, and it is an insult to me and all the other transgender people out there to imply that being transgendered is a result of environment or a choice.

She did remarry so I had a step dad too, he was a good stable guy. It was good to have a positive male role model and not just to look to my mother for everything and not just imitate and bond with her, not a male role model too. I also had a really good grandpa. Many family who loved me and didnt show me hate and rejection I saw from others...Though they didnt celebrate the confusion itself, but loved me as an individual not defined by this one thing. I am thankful for this!

All my issues that lead to gender identity confusion came from my relationship with my parents, this is just true! Mostly issues with my dad, he was abusive to my mother, mostly out of the picture, and I bonded with my mother and wanted to be like her. She was a little over protective too, but she did love me, and she actually is the primary reason I overcome gender identity disorder, she spoke truth and encouragement into my confusion.

His assessment is, Kids who are coddled by their mothers turn out to be gay, So, That must mean kids in a single mother family turn out to be gay, It doesn't matter if he didn't say exactly that, what he said means just that.

@Yeshuamyhope - This Psychologist's views go against all current research about homosexuality and believes that nurture is the root cause. He's a certified moron. So no, he is most definitely not correct in his assessment.
Also, findings of those with GID show that there is a biological side to Transgenderism (Primarily TS), no amount of overbearing mothering is going to change biology. I suggest you rethink your views before replying.

@Flam3o I might also add that it is a myth that true transsexualism involves "gender confusion"-"confusion" would mean that the person might be conflicted about who or what they are. I promise you, I was never at ANY stage confused about what I was, I knew I was a female, no matter what anything, even my own body, told me. It is the rest of the world that has the confusion.

@MrTUFFTALK I certainly did, and from everything I've heard, pretty much all others who are really transsexuals do as well....definitely before puberty (that is a requirement for being allowed to go through with transition).

Not only was she ripped into pieces, but clearly she was hidding something when she started talking about the "unisex method". The question was: how did the father react? but she never gave a straight answer. On top of that at some point she did mention that the father had thrown the barbie doll in the garbage, so clearly he did not take it well. However she tried to make everyone believe that her son had a perfect good relationship with his dad.

No amount of playtime with daddy is gonna change a trangendered child's view on who she is. She feels like her soul is trapped in a man's body and no matter how hard she's told she's a boy, she's not gonna believe that. Eventually if she's forced her entire life probably she may think so just to make her life easier but... Of course dads should play with their children ;) But to present it as an answer to this question is just weird and shows they have no idea what this phenomenon is all about.

This all reminds me of the scientific FACT that every single one of you was a girl at one point of their physical development in the womb untill XY chromosome told your overies to become testies and start producing male hormones that made your clit turn into penis, vulva into scrotum etc...
