this sweet piece or art is actually just 2 basic foldpatrons a Water-bomb base and a Preliminary base. I have made one myself and I like it. It was in a book I own (Origami, the complete guide to the art of paperfolding by Rick Beech) which shows you staps of 'easy' pieces..

It's called origami gyroscope because If you hold opposite corners between your palms and blow on the model, it will spin

A gyroscope is a device for measuring or maintaining orientation, based on the principles of angular momentum not hard to understand wikipedia'd it

The combined angular momentum of multiple gyroscopes is what can change the axis of a satellite without burning fuel (since gyroscopes can run off the solar cells). A really neat trick. Only two are needed for the job but three are often used so that there is a backup available. I think this is in wikipedia somewhere...

actually i do believe you should be able to spin it, making it act as an actual gyroscope, it appears to have the right qualities to balance the sides and spin, meaning simply that if you spin the tip on something that allows free motion, such as the end of a closed pen, it should stay balanced
