People need to take the TIME to tweak and customize the os to make it run well. 7 runs well out of the box but tweaking it makes it better.

I have no problems with Vista, disable updates, disable the windows defender, install ur own antivirus and firewall and it works fine no problems. Unless you have a quad core phenom processor, then it needs a little tweaking but nothing that cannot be done in 15 minutes.

it's the TLB erratum that's running in vista and cannot be disabled, with the TLB running you only get about 60-70% performance outta the cpu. I run the crystal CPUID with a tlb disable program and my fps increased by 15-20 fps in any game, not a very big deal but it's there.

Yes, I have Vista and it has so much more space and can handle all the files and programs I dump on my computers. My XP crashed when I got my new set of videos, but Vista's still as fast as ever after all those huge videos and movies were put on the C drive.

It was rushed too much and if they would have taken the time to debug it and fix all their mistakes, especially with the administrative privileges, then it would pwn mac. Also, this campaign was directed at "end" users how virtually have little to no technical knowledge of Operating systems. I doubt that Microsoft would have dared to try this trick on a system admin or pc technician who would be able to easily exploit the defects of Vista's architecture which would have ruined this little "save face" attempt that they are trying.

The point of the project was to use people who had never seen Vista. Therefore, people in the IT industry couldn't be used. By the way, people used to say XP (and 98 before it) was unstable as well, and most of the time their machines were not configured properly. I ahve yet to have permanent problems with any Windows version. If you do, maybe you should try to not take the easy way out and blame it on the OS and FIX IT.

Again it IS the OS's fault, you need to refer to my other 2 previous comments, where i mentioned a hybrid new version of NTFS, impossible batch editing, and authenticode drivers, which has nothing to do with "configuration". These are also not just simple "fixes" that you can do without virtually changing the structure layout of the OS itself. I am glad to hear that Vista works fine for you, and that's good but that doesn't mean that it is a reliable OS.

Lets not forget also that Microsoft began to reinvent the file system for HDD formatting and then stopped half way through which left a hybrid form of NTFS in the OS that is in fact slower to access than the previous NTFS for XP. My pc is 2GB SDRAM DDR2 w/Intel core 2 Duo and an ATI X1975 crossfire pro 256 MB graphics card and Vista still runs crappy. So please know some technical information about OS's before you post and idiot comment on here defending Vista

YOU are the stupid one. You obviously do not understand the core architecture of an Operating System. The requirements actually have very little to do with the defects of Vista.Even with the correct requirements, you still have the problem with the official authenticode driver signature that is ONLY available through Microsoft which makes ALOT of hardware devices incompatable (graphics cards, cameras..etc). Also it does not allow for easy batch file editing which is a major flaw as well.

Or you would need to downgrade to XP. Many businesses still use XP or older OS's. It is common for an OS to include different libraries that make it unable to use with apps made for an older OS. I'm not a Microsoft fan, and I agree about the ridiculous startup time, but you need to be more aware of computing before supplying your business with PC's.

Yes, but who wants to use an operating system that you have to upgrade your system to use. Regardless of hardware, vista is a resource hog and everyone knows it! who wants to use almost 2gigs of ram at system idle. Even with a core2extreme @ 3ghz you use almost 1gig of ram

You just pointed out you have no idea how modern operating systems work. OSX and Vista preload all memory as access is faster, that memory cache is flushed in the event it is needed. It is why Vista and OSX are faster than their predecessors.

my laptop came with vista and it really is fail. i cant record my machinimas, and lots of programs are just plain retarted, things liek not recognizing my usb mic. its retarted.

this weekend im starting up my 5 year old XP machine and im gonna do a big wipe and only keep XP and basic programs on it, to speed it up. should be boring, but worth it compared to constant crashes due to the dazzle dvd recorder.

Alot of the programs i use daily will not run with vista. Vista is packed with so many dumb security prompts and i dont have the time to configure around it. Vista looks pretty and all but its just not for me, and A LOT OF PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE. Before you convert to Vista make sure your programs are compatible with it. For most people its great. I didnt like how everything was reworded and moved around where im not used to. I give it a thumbs down.

Let me rephrase that. Microsoft just gives you more options. You don't have to upgrade the hardware, but don't expect as much from the OS. They aren't going to spend much time fixing bugs for an outdated computer. New computers are cheap, it's just not cost effective.

Well, let them use it for more than 5 minutes and let them experience their first crash. Then their second crash. And their third. And so on and so forth. Believe me ANYONE would like Vista for such a short period of time...

What would have been better would have been to let people take Vista home with them to their own home computers... Their experience would be a lot worse...
