the real sad thing is that Evenson beat his record at 246.5 meters and not only lived but landed it almost perfectly. something to be said in favor of pros i guess.
its great to test the limits of the human body and all... but I think what's even greater is to test the limits of the human mind. That is what can truly expand the reach of humanity.
He is a very brave guy and probably an awsome skier but.. For starters, helmet, neck protection, back protection etc might have been a good idea.. Lucky not to break his neck and back.. And did he really need skis to do that? For me, a "record jump" on skis or snowboard should include landing on your feet and ski/board away from it. Not be buried head-first like a sack of potatoes.
@mikeEviLSLuGGA Avalanche in Utah last November, he was boarding pre-season with a friend. He was swept off a cliff and only half buried but died as a result of the impacts.
@vebbimanos well obviously its not the record any more.. this video was made 4 years ago and now the person who broke it 4 years ago (Jamie Pierre) is dead.
Jamie Pierre's death is sad and unnecessary. A basic lesson in avalanche safety: As the risk of avalanche increases, your terrain selection must become more conservative. Pierre and his partner had already triggered one avalanche - a sure sign of high risk. Under those circumstances, you don't ride/ski on unsupported snow or above hazards (cliffs, terrain traps, rock bands, etc). May he rest in peace and may his family come to peace with his loss.
what a fucking idiot. 'I want you to think about Jesus Christ' and then he is basically daring death. I just read his complete bio, and this guy had a death wish. He even refused to wear a helmet. Sorry but I'm not impressed. Its great that he was a die hard Christian and all. I can appreciate that, but he was thumbing his nose at his own mortality. Any moron can jump off a cliff. Adios dumbass
@Ripptyde64 any moron can jump off a cliff? have some repect, this takes loads of skill to control your body in the air and it takes a lot of courage to jump. I think you are just jealous because he was an incredible skier and person, and people are sad he is gone, but nobody will care when you die.
@AmaziinqVids Um no idiot, I'm not 'jealous' that he was a talented skier. I just think that if you keep daring death and taking foolish risks, you deserve it. I don't feel sorry for this guy at all. He knew the risks and he got what he had coming. May sound a bit heartless, but people that taunt their own mortality get no sympathy from me. Life is precious, and he just threw it away on some testosterone head trip. (no pun intended)
What do you think, that he wasn't living it? I think the risks he took were absolutely worth it. It seems the REAL waste of a lifetime would be waking up to find out you're a 40 year-old in a dead end job. This guy didn't "throw away" his life - he lived it for what it was worth and didn't hold out, hoping for some future that would never arrive.
@AmaziinqVids its true what you said and i respect this bro, but its funny saying that u need control, and he fell head first, like a dive :P but mad props to jamie :)
@AmaziinqVids HUGE balls of steel, absolutely. Controlling his body? Dude, he did the ultimate lawnchair, don't think he really controlled anything. How did he die?
Thats just incredible. I'm a snowboarder and honestly I didn't know you could land on your back but it makes sense. You couldn't pay me enough to do it though.
@DJSexLeopard I'm a powder skier and I'm also dropping like this guy (on a smaller scale ofc). but I too love my life but I'm still supporting those who wants to push the limits. and why do you talk about tax dollars anyway? you're economy is fucked nomatter what you do.
Jamie Pierre survived this jump, skied out from it with only a gash in his lip which wasn't even from the fall, but from a shovel that was used to dig him out of the hole. However, he died on November 13th, 2011 in a snowboarding accident in Utah.
@thekidwithballz On Sunday, Pierre was on a more routine snowboard trip at Snowbird Resort in the Wasatch Range of Utah when an avalanche carried him about 800 feet over rocky terrain and a small cliff. He came to a stop partly buried and died of trauma, a representative of the Utah Avalanche Center said. Pierre was 38 and lived in Big Sky, Mont.
@thekidwithballz I guess if you buy the argument that living with Jesus, is just returning to his eternal existence and not death.... Then you are correct. But if you consider death as the physical body not sustaining life any longer..... Then you are the dumb shit tard... Cuz Jamie Pierre isn't with us today! RIP Jamie Pierre
He was seriously lucky to survive that fall at almost being head first. Too bad that he died from trauma from an avalanche, RIP Jamie, this guy had fucking balls that nobody had.
His obituary was a full article in the NYTimes. The last sentence was his explanation of why he NEVER used a helmet: words to the effect of, "If it's dangerous enough to require a helmet, then maybe I shouldn't be doing it."
He died doing something very common, in fact - skiing in powder outside the marked trails, with a companion. But in November the weather and snow are still highly prone to avalanches, compared to the hard-freeze season. RIP indeed.
You obviously don't know shit, cuz anybody that rides can die in an avalanche! Have respect for the dead, especially when they rip better than you! FUKU!
