I guess they were reluctant to use the night setting because the GBA is already dark enough as it is (before the days of the backlit GBA SP, of course).
It has nothing to do with the light, only with the GBA's ability, or more so lacking ability to render enough colors, the background image, and even play the music properly at a stable frame rate.
donkeykong country 1,2,3 on the gba are not bad but the colors are too overbrichted and the sounds are mixed into mono sound+they sometimes bleeky and the mini games does,nt impressing me except for the 3d glass game in dk3 for wich you have to collect bananas.
The theme music 4 this level sounds like something I would play at a NYTE KLUB. Nice sounds RARE. LOL!

WOAH, wtf? the background is so frikin light like its daytime :| in SNES, the background looks like its night time.

Yeah... I realize that now. That last comment I made was from a long time ago before I started studying the GBA's hardware more.

This version have a better music, and the bottom, but all the aside, is best in the SNES version.
