As requested by viewers, I have added the lyrics + the English translation to the description. There also is a newer-image version which I uploaded later.

  • Could you write me the text also of this music?

  • I mean sang not sung sorry

  • Normally, when I listen to a countertenor, I realise that he is a man, and I feel that I am listening to some kind of unisex voice. I wouldn't have noticed that he was a man if I hadn't known. He sings in a very pure way, almost heavenly

  • Of course, you realize that Radu Marian is not a countertenor. Yes, Radu's natural soprano voice is very pure. The focused purity of the Baroque castrato voice is one of many reasons that both opera and church preferred castrato singers.

  • I had never thought about it. Very interesting, but does it mean that he is singing naturally, I mean, without falsetti? Do you think that, if he sung as a tenor, he would sing well? I don't know much about this, but I'm interested. Thx

  • This is the voice of an angel on a ceiling painted by Tiepolo.

    immaculate and pure.

  • Don´t worry,I guess they mean the author of the comment, not who posted the video. You´re most kind!

  • He is truly an angel in flesh and bones!

  • Comment removed

  • I would be honore if I get possibility to listen this soul performing alive. Fascinating! Purely Divine! Bravo

  • Radu MARIAN con la sua voce incanta, anche se non si capiscono le parole. Grazie, Stephen !

  • I really like Radu Mrian :D

Where can I find the lyric of Bononcini's work?

Such as the lyric of this cantata?

  • what is the operation called in the baroque period when boys stayed the same voice

  • They are known as "castratos"

  • thanks

  • aha! Finally found one with a lute behind him. This is heart-wrenchingly beautiful. Knew there had to be something with him singing with a lute in the orchestra somewhere. Might even be a theorbo. The purity of that voice with the delicate notes of the lute melding with the strings is beyond sublime

  • I am absolutely transfixed by this voice, and I thank you very much for sharing. Sadly I am having vexing troubles finding any of his work on CD. Do you have any suggestions to where I might find it?

  • I found a copy of his Bononcini CD at the UK Amazon website (a used copy). Just keep an eye out everywhere you might be lucky as I was. ;-)

  • Si, ma io non capisco cosa vuol dire "endocrinological castrato" ? Allora: e un castrato o no?

  • Non capisco per che questa voce no e piu conosciutta nel mondo musicale. Qui abbiamo un huomo con la voce d'angelo.

  • Thank you sfkcbf for posting. Its indeed very educational and rare.

  • Is there any chance you'd have a piece of Radu singing french baroque music?

  • I have no recordings of Radu singing French Baroque music. Most vocal works of the style uploaded here were Italian. Historically, France was somewhat of a musical anomaly when it came to the castrato voice; therefore, a larger portion of their music was written for other voices.

  • I love french baroque music: L'incomparable Mr. de Lully, Charpentier, Rameau, Marin Marais, but ... unfortunately, french baroque opera heroes used to be barytones, basses, tenors; the french composers hated castrati :( (and almost any italian thing)

  • Most heroes in French Baroque operas were haute-contres (high tenors). Charpentier was one, himself.

  • Those guys often wrote parts for Haut-contre. See Russell Obelrin and Rodrigo Del Pozo. Theres a fellow recording his stuff on youtube with the range as well named Arturo Escorza Pedraza. Wonderful music.

  • I do not understand where all the potential Haut-contre may be today and why they are not singing classical music. I have heard a very old collection of British popular songs. One singer was tenor, one was male soprano, and all the others sounded to be Haut-contre.

  • It's probably a mix of bad agents and a comparative lack of interest or awareness in French Baroque. A shame, really. Louis Xiv and XV sponsored some pretty impressive talent during their reigns. Heh, a lot of them weren't even Italians with Frenchified names like Luly who was from Cremona, or Florence or somewhere like that.

  • Florence. But he was only 14 when he came to France.

  • My sincere thanks for sharing these. His voice has haunted me since I first heard it. What a joy to

find myself among friends..those who delight in all things *Castrati*, without any trace of prurience.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words. I receive joy in sharing beauty with others. I am especially pleased when I encounter people who have the knowledge and insight to truly appreciate my efforts to bring excellence to other people's attention. I wish more people had that understanding.

  • Amazing voice,as pure as crystal, transporting us in a different world. thank you for Bonocini's cantatas. they are indeed heavenly!Hope to hear more!
